    Preview: Buffalo at New Jersey
When: 7:00 PM ET, Tuesday, April 5, 2016
Where: Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey
After bringing up the rear in the Eastern Conference the past two seasons, the Buffalo Sabres are intent on finishing on a high note as they begin a closing three-game stretch with a visit to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. Buffalo is seeking its second three-game winning streak of the season – and first since Nov. 7-12.
The Sabres are 6-2-2 over their past 10 games and coach Dan Bylsma said they should not allow the momentum to be stalled by playing two of the last three away from home. “Good teams win on the road and that’s what we’re trying to do,” Bylsma said. “That’s what we’re trying to do these last three games.” New Jersey had dropped two in a row and four of its last five (1-3-1), scoring a combined seven goals in the process. The Devils have dominated the series with Buffalo of late, winning the last five matchups.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, MSG Buffalo, MSG-Plus (New Jersey)
ABOUT THE SABRES (33-35-11): Ryan O’Reilly and rookie Jack Eichel, Buffalo’s two leading scorers, each sat out practice Monday and Bylsma said one of his centers is questionable against New Jersey. O’Reilly who has three goals and three assists during a four-game point streak to boost his team-high total to 58 despite sitting out 11 games, sustained an undisclosed injury in Saturday’s 4-3 victory at the New York Rangers. Sabres netminder Chad Johnson, who has made eight straight starts, is 1-1-0 with a 2.50 goals-against average versus New Jersey.
ABOUT THE DEVILS (37-34-8): Since erupting for a season-high seven goals against the Minnesota Wild on March 17, New Jersey has managed only 15 tallies over the past eight games and is last in the league with 176. Patrik Elias, the franchise’s all-time leading scorer who has been sidelined since Dec. 19 and has been rehabbing from arthroscopic knee surgery, could be back in the lineup Tuesday. “We’ll see how he reacts tomorrow and he could be a possibility for tomorrow or Tampa (on Thursday),” coach John Hynes said after Monday’s practice.
    OVERTIME
    1. O’Reilly has four goals and four assists in 10 games versus New Jersey.
    2. Devils G Cory Schneider, who made his first start since March 4 on Sunday, is 5-2-2 with a 1.52 GAA versus Buffalo.
    3. The Devils have killed off 24-of-26 penalties in the last seven games while Buffalo has snuffed out 21-of-22 short-handed situations.
    PREDICTION: Devils 3, Sabres 2

Preview: Tampa Bay at NY Rangers
When: 7:30 PM ET, Tuesday, April 5, 2016
Where: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York
One night after punching their ticket to the postseason, the New York Rangers look to gain some momentum when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. The Rangers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory at Columbus to seal a spot in the playoffs and move within three points of Pittsburgh for second place in the Metropolitan Division.
Derek Stepan continued his hot streak with a goal and an assist, pushing his total to 11 points over the last seven games, for the Rangers as they attempt to avenge their loss to Tampa Bay in the Eastern Conference final last spring. The Lightning still are a point away from clinching a playoff spot after falling 5-2 at the New York Islanders on Monday as they soldier on without captain Steven Stamkos – out 1-to-3 months with a blood clot – and defenseman Anton Stralman (broken fibula). “Those guys are irreplaceable, so our depth is going to be tested,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper told the Tampa Tribune. “Two pretty big pieces of the puzzle. Now we really have to dig our heels in and pick those guys up.”
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN, Sportsnet, TVA, MSG (New York)
ABOUT THE LIGHTNING (45-29-5): Nikita Kucherov notched an assist Monday to edge past Stamkos for the team lead in points with 65. Defenseman Victor Hedman was an uncharacteristic minus-3 against the Islanders but recorded his 10th goal of the season while Alex Killorn also scored to become the fourth player on the team to reach 40 points. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped all 13 shots he faced Monday in relief of Ben Bishop, who was pulled for only the second time this season.
ABOUT THE RANGERS (44-26-9): Captain Ryan McDonagh, who registered an assist in each of the previous two games, suffered an apparent hand injury Monday and is questionable to face Tampa Bay. Stepan has put up big numbers of late along with Chris Kreider, who has recorded four goals and three assists over his last five contests. Mats Zuccarello scored for the fourth time in seven games Monday to push his total to 26 goals and move past Derick Brassard (58) for the team lead with 59 points.
      OVERTIME
      1. New York D Keith Yandle, a pending unrestricted free agent, leads the team with 40 assists and has notched five in his last six games.
      2. Tampa Bay LW Jonathan Drouin, who was expected to be recalled from the American Hockey League due to Stamkos’ injury, is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
      3. The Lightning won the last three games at New York in the 2015 conference final, posting shutouts in Games 5 and 7.
      PREDICTION: Rangers 4, Lightning 1

        Preview: Florida at Montreal
When: 7:30 PM ET, Tuesday, April 5, 2016
        Where: Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec
Having already clinched a playoff berth and secured home ice for at least the first round of the postseason, the Florida Panthers can take a step closer to the Atlantic Division title when they visit the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night. The Panthers lead Tampa Bay by four points with three games to play as they pursue the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Florida has won three straight and five of six to set a franchise record with 99 points as it prepares for its second matchup with the Canadiens in a span of four days. The Panthers spotted visiting Montreal a three-goal lead before roaring back for a 4-3 victory behind two goals and two assists by Aleksander Barkov, who has scored four goals in his last three games. Monday’s 4-3 win at Toronto could have come at a cost as defenseman Erik Gudbranson was limping at the end of the game. The Canadiens, who will play their seventh straight contest against a playoff contender, have dropped all three matchups against the Panthers this season.
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FSN Florida, Sportsnet East, RDS (Montreal)
ABOUT THE PANTHERS (45-25-9): When Florida lost emerging star Vincent Trocheck for the rest of the regular season last week, the team elevated Nick Bjustad to take Trochek’s role as the No. 2 center and recalled Rocco Grimaldi from Portland of the American Hockey League. Grimaldi scored twice in Monday’s win to match his goal total in his first 23 games while Bjugstad halted a seven-game drought with his 14th tally of the season. Former No. 2 overall pick Barkov has torched the Canadiens in his career with nine goals and five assists in 11 games.
ABOUT THE CANADIENS (36-37-6): Veteran journeyman John Scott’s season will take another surprising turn Tuesday when he makes his debut with Montreal, which acquired him from Arizona in mid-January. Scott has been with the St. John’s IceCaps of the AHL since the deal – save for an appearance in the NHL All-Star Game in which he earned MVP honors – and said he will return to the team after Tuesday’s contest. “It was a shock, but I’m super grateful to be here. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to play for the Canadiens,” Scott said.
        OVERTIME
        1. Panthers D Brian Campbell will play in his 1,000th career game and 374th in a row for Florida, breaking Olli Jokinen’s team record.
        2. Canadiens F Brendan Gallagher scored against the Panthers on Saturday in his return from a 12-game absence.
        3. Panthers G Roberto Luongo has allowed four goals in winning both starts versus Montreal this season.
        PREDICTION: Canadiens 3, Panthers 2

          Preview: Pittsburgh at Ottawa
When: 7:30 PM ET, Tuesday, April 5, 2016
Where: Canadian Tire Centre, Ottawa, Ontario
Matt Murray and the Pittsburgh Penguins look to continue their respective torrid streaks as the regular season winds down. Named as the NHL’s Third Star of the Week, Murray is expected to return to the crease and vie to win his sixth straight start on Tuesday as the white-hot Penguins visit the Ottawa Senators.
The 21-year-old Murray recorded his first career shutout in a 5-0 win over the New York Islanders on Saturday and made 28 saves the following day as Pittsburgh posted its sixth consecutive victory and 12th in 13 outings with a 6-2 rout of Philadelphia. Captain Sidney Crosby is riding a six-game point streak (two goals, four assists) and scored three unanswered goals in the Penguins’ 6-5 victory over Ottawa on Feb. 2. The two-time Hart Trophy recipient has recorded at least one point in 18 of his last 19 contests (eight goals, 18 assists) for second-place Pittsburgh, which is closing in on home-ice advantage for its first-round series. Ottawa captain Erik Karlsson is finishing the season with a flourish, collecting two goals and four assists in his last six contests.
          TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, ROOT (Pittsburgh), RDS2, WPCW, TSN5 (Ottawa), NHL.TV
ABOUT THE PENGUINS (46-25-8): While Karlsson is the two-time – and reigning – Norris Trophy recipient, coach Mike Sullivan told reporters that Kris Letang should receive consideration for the award this season. “I honestly think that he doesn’t get the recognition in the hockey world that he deserves. I think he’s that good,” Sullivan told the team’s website of Letang, who has two goals and seven assists during his current six-game point streak. “He’s an elite defenseman. He’s one of the most elite defensemen this league has, in our opinion, as a coaching staff.”
ABOUT THE SENATORS (36-34-9): Ottawa opens a two-game homestand on Tuesday with little more than pride on the line, an awkward feeling for a team that provided a feel-good story with last year’s spirited dash for the playoffs. “There’s nothing worse (than a long summer),” forward Bobby Ryan told the Ottawa Citizen on the heels of a 3-2 loss to Philadelphia on Saturday. “I’ve had it a few times and then you’ve got to add it up over and over again. It makes for a very long summer.” Ryan is third on the team in both goals (22) and assists (34), but has been held off the scoresheet in both meetings this season with Pittsburgh.
          OVERTIME
          1. Pittsburgh RW Phil Kessel has five goals and six assists in his last six games.
          2. Ottawa recalled F Buddy Robinson from Binghamton of the American Hockey League on Monday.
          3. Penguins RW Patric Hornqvist has scored a goal in three consecutive contests.
          PREDICTION: Penguins 4, Senators 1

            Preview: Colorado at Nashville
When: 8:00 PM ET, Tuesday, April 5, 2016
            Where: Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, Tennessee
With their playoff hopes hanging by a thread, the Colorado Avalanche need to win their final three games and get some help as they prepare to visit the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night. The Avalanche have unraveled down the stretch, dropping three games in a row and five of their last six to move to the brink of elimination.
Colorado trails Minnesota by five points for the eighth playoff spot and would need to win its final three and have the Wild falter in their last two games to reach the postseason. “We’re fighting for our lives,” Avalanche leading scorer Matt Duchene said. “We’re going to have to show what kind of mental fortitude we have, and right now it’s not as good as it could be and we need to be better.” The Predators are locked into the top wild-card spot in the Western Conference, but they are stumbling to the finish line with four straight losses, including a 4-3 setback to visiting Colorado on March 28. Nashville has three games left to get untracked before a likely first-round playoff match against either Anaheim or Los Angeles.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, Altitude (Colorado), FSN Tennessee (Nashville)
ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (39-36-4): Colorado coach Patrick Roy has not seen enough offense from his team, which has produced only four goals during the three-game skid, and the lone tally he saw in Sunday’s 5-1 loss to St. Louis – scored by Duchene in a lopsided rout – drew his ire. “The thing I have a hard time is the reaction of Dutchy after he scores. … Are you kidding me? What is that?” Roy said. “I mean, it’s not the (reaction) we want from our guys, not at all.” It was the 30th goal for Duchene, who has nine tallies in 24 games versus Nashville.
ABOUT THE PREDATORS (39-26-14): Nashville is having all kinds of trouble keeping the puck out of its own net, surrendering 14 goals over a three-game span before blowing a two-goal lead in the third period of a 3-2 shootout loss to visiting San Jose on Saturday. The Predators could be getting some reinforcements back along the blue line with Ryan Ellis and rookie Anthony Bitetto getting close to a return. Ellis said at Monday’s practice that he is hoping to be back in the lineup Tuesday while Bitetto is wishing to return before the start of the postseason.
            OVERTIME
            1. Predators G Pekka Rinne has allowed 10 goals in his last three starts, including three in the first period versus Colorado on March 28.
            2. Avalanche G Semyon Varlamov was yanked from Sunday’s loss versus St. Louis, but is 11-4-1 against Nashville.
            3. Predators F Filip Forsberg has five goals and 10 points in 10 games against Colorado.

              Preview: San Jose at Minnesota
When: 8:00 PM ET, Tuesday, April 5, 2016
Where: Xcel Energy Center, Saint Paul, Minnesota
The Minnesota Wild rode an impressive six-game winning streak to the cusp of a postseason berth only to blow a tire and lose their last three contests. The Wild look to put their troubles in their rear-view mirror and secure a playoff berth on Tuesday when they play the penultimate game of their regular season against the visiting San Jose Sharks.
“The guys have been sitting on a cushion,” interim coach John Torchetti told the team website of Minnesota, which leads Colorado by five points for the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference. The Wild can secure a postseason berth with either two points gained in their final two contests or two lost points by the Avalanche in their final three. Former Minnesota defenseman Brent Burns extended his point streak to six games (one goal, eight assists) by setting up a tally as San Jose skated to its third win in four outings with Saturday’s 3-2 shootout victory over Nashville. Selected as the NHL’s Second Star of the Week on Monday, Burns leads all blue-liners with 27 goals this season and ranks second only to Ottawa captain Erik Karlsson at the position in points.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, CSN California-Plus (San Jose), FSN North (Minnesota)
ABOUT THE SHARKS (44-29-6): Third-place San Jose, which is playing its final regular-season road contest, is an NHL-best 27-10-3 away from home this season to match its franchise record for road wins (2007-08). “We’ve been good on the road all year. I think we’re taking some pride in wanting to finish with the best road record in the league,” coach Pete DeBoer told CSNBayArea.com. James Reimer, who has made himself at home with five wins in his last six starts overall, has stopped 92 of 94 shots to post a 2-1-0 mark in his career versus Minnesota.
ABOUT THE WILD (38-31-11): Defenseman Jared Spurgeon joined a handful of his teammates for an optional skate on Monday, under 24 hours removed from a lackluster 5-1 setback to Winnipeg that marked the club’s third game in four days. “I’ll take it day-by-day,” Spurgeon told the Minneapolis Star Tribune of the lower-body injury he suffered while blocking a shot during Thursday’s 3-2 setback to Ottawa. While Torchetti told reporters that Spurgeon will play if he’s able on Tuesday, veteran forward Thomas Vanek will sit for the third time in four games with an upper-body injury.
              OVERTIME
              1. San Jose LW Tomas Hertl scored twice in the third period on Saturday and also tallied in a 4-3 win over Minnesota on Jan. 23.
              2. The Wild are 0-for-8 on the power play in their last four games after scoring five times with the man advantage in their previous three.
              3. San Jose C Joe Thornton (1,337 points) is one shy of tying Denis Savard and Dave Andreychuk for 28th on the NHL’s all-time list.
              PREDICTION: Sharks 3, Wild 2

                Preview: Arizona at Chicago
When: 8:30 PM ET, Tuesday, April 5, 2016
                Where: United Center, Chicago, Illinois
The Chicago Blackhawks’ vaunted second line had been sputtering mightily before erupting for 18 points (eight goals, 10 assists) in the team’s last two games. The trio of superstar Patrick Kane, rookie Artemi Panarin and Artem Anisimov looks to continue its amazing start to April on Tuesday, when the Blackhawks host the Arizona Coyotes.
“We realized teams were kind of defending us a little bit differently, so we had to adjust some things,” Kane told the Chicago Sun-Times. The adjustments have worked well as Kane rebounded from scoring just one goal in his previous 10 games to net four and set up two others in his last two contests while Panarin recorded his second straight four-point performance en route to being named the NHL’s First Star of the Week on Monday. Anisimov collected a goal and two assists in Chicago’s 6-4 victory over Boston on Sunday, marking the team’s third straight win and fourth in five contests. The Coyotes didn’t do the Blackhawks any favors the following night, however, as St. Louis overcame an early two-goal deficit and posted a 5-2 victory over Arizona to move six points ahead of third-place Chicago in the Central Division.
TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, FSN Arizona, CSN Chicago
ABOUT THE COYOTES (35-37-7): Anthony Duclair recorded his seventh point in seven games by scoring his 20th goal on Monday, but the rookie has been held off the scoresheet in each of his two previous meetings with Chicago. Martin Hanzal was riding a five-game point streak (three goals, four assists) before remaining in Arizona with an upper-body injury. “Hopefully, there’s a chance he can join us (on the season-ending road trip), but we’ll just monitor that,” coach Dave Tippett told the AZCentral Sports.
ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (46-26-7): An apparent left leg injury suffered in the third period on Sunday has veteran Marian Hossa “questionable, maybe doubtful” for Tuesday’s tilt, coach Joel Quenneville told CSN Chicago. Fellow forward Andrew Shaw has been ruled out by the coach after suffering an upper-body injury versus Winnipeg on Friday. Scott Darling will get the nod in net on Tuesday with the club still eyeing Corey Crawford (upper body) for the final regular-season contest in Columbus on Saturday.
                OVERTIME
                1. Chicago captain Jonathan Toews, who is riding a four-game point streak (one goal, three assists), scored in overtime to cap a two-goal performance in a 5-4 victory over Arizona on Feb. 4.
                2. The Coyotes are 2-12-1 in their last 15 road contests.
                3. Kane recorded a goal and two assists in Chicago’s 7-5 victory over Arizona on Dec. 29.

                  Preview: Los Angeles at Calgary
When: 9:00 PM ET, Tuesday, April 5, 2016
                  Where: Scotiabank Saddledome, Calgary, Alberta
The Los Angeles Kings have no time to lick their wounds as they attempt to avoid a third straight loss when they wrap up the road portion of their schedule Tuesday against the Calgary Flames. Los Angeles wasted the opportunity to regain first place in the Pacific Division, squandering a pair of leads before dropping a 3-2 decision at Vancouver on Monday to remain one point behind Anaheim.
The loss may have cost the Kings in their quest for the second division crown in franchise history as the Ducks will have a game in hand entering their showdown in Los Angeles on Thursday. Calgary is beginning its final homestand of the season – a two-game set that concludes Thursday against the Canucks – after rolling past the Oilers 5-0 in Edmonton on Saturday. Johnny Gaudreau has been a bright spot in a dark campaign for the Flames, avoiding the sophomore jinx by leading the team in goals (30), assists (45) and points (75). Los Angeles looks to complete a sweep of the four-game season series after outscoring Calgary 9-2 over the first three contests.
TV: 9 p.m. ET, KCOP-13 (Los Angeles), Sportsnet West (Calgary)
ABOUT THE KINGS (46-28-5): Tyler Toffoli has been on a surge offensively, recording eight points over his last seven games while becoming the 20th 30-goal scorer in the NHL this season with his tally Monday. Defenseman Alec Martinez is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury after missing the contest against Vancouver. Jamie McBain filled in for Martinez and recorded four shots and a plus-1 rating over 13:43 of ice time in his first game since Feb. 25.
ABOUT THE FLAMES (33-40-6): After splashing onto the scene with a 24-goal, 64-point effort last season that made him a Calder Trophy finalist, Gaudreau has improved upon those numbers despite his young age and diminutive stature. “Never did I think I was going to score 30 goals in the NHL,” the 5-9, 157-pound 22-year old told reporters after scoring twice Saturday to reach the plateau. “It’s a really cool milestone and I’m really fortunate that I had a lot of really great plays from a lot of great players throughout the season that helped me.” Sean Monahan already has matched his career-high point total of 62 set last campaign but needs four goals over his last four games to equal his personal best of 31 – also posted in 2014-15.
                  OVERTIME
                  1. Flames C Joe Colborne is two goals away from becoming the fourth member of the team to reach 20 this season.
                  2. Los Angeles has lost five straight on the road, last winning in Dallas on March 15.
                  3. Calgary C Mikael Backlund is one goal shy of matching his career high of 18 from 2013-14.

                    Preview: Winnipeg at Anaheim
When: 10:00 PM ET, Tuesday, April 5, 2016
                    Where: Honda Center, Anaheim, California
The Anaheim Ducks try for their 15th consecutive victory over Winnipeg when they host the Jets on Tuesday and hope to begin getting some of their injured players back for the final week of the regular season. Goaltender Frederik Andersen and defenseman Simon Despres (concussions) participated in Monday’s practice and Despres has been cleared to return, but Anaheim is expected to be without center Rickard Rakell for at least one more game as he recovers from an appendectomy.
Defenseman Kevin Bieksa, center Brandon Pirri (upper-body injuries) and left wing David Perron (separated shoulder) also missed Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Dallas, with Perron not expected back until at least midway through the Ducks’ first-round playoff series. “The one thing you can’t do is have a pity party and say, ‘Woe is me,’” Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau told reporters. “We sit there and another guy comes in and his job is to do as well as the guy before him.” The Ducks lead Los Angeles by one point in the Pacific Division with four games remaining – one more than the Kings – and visit Los Angeles on Thursday to kick off a season-ending three-game road trip. Winnipeg has been reduced to the role of spoiler and played the part well by slowing Minnesota’s bid for a Western Conference wild-card spot with a 5-1 victory on Sunday in their home finale.
                    TV: 10 p.m. ET, NHL Network, TSN3
ABOUT THE JETS (32-39-8): Winnipeg could not build off the momentum of last season’s trip to the postseason, but continues to play hard down the stretch. “The veterans have driven (us),” coach Paul Maurice told reporters. “(Blake) Wheeler and (Dustin) Byfuglien are playing as hard and as well as they have all year. … There’s some accountability and pride for the other players when they see those guys competing and not being casual about the game.” Wheeler’s 50 assists are good for fifth in the NHL and his team-best 73 points also mark a career high while Mark Scheifele (club-high 27 goals) scored three in the last four games.
ABOUT THE DUCKS (44-24-10): Fourth-line center Nate Thompson didn’t record a goal in his first 42 games but has scored in a career-high three straight contests, including a shorthanded breakaway tally Sunday in what Boudreau called Anaheim’s best game in a month. Ryan Kesler scored the other two goals Sunday to give him 20, marking the eighth time he’s reached that plateau. Corey Perry has a team-high 32 goals – the sixth time he’s scored that many – and is one shy of matching last season’s total while Ryan Getzlaf boasts 49 assists – tied for sixth in the league with Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby – and a club-best 61 points.
                    OVERTIME
