Rangers at Canadiens: What Bettors Need to Know
    By Covers.com

New York Rangers at Montreal Canadiens (-127, 5)

The Montreal Canadiens relinquished home-ice advantage in their Eastern Conference final after being on the business end of a 7-2 drubbing in the series opener. Looking to even the set with the New York Rangers, Montreal isn't revealing its cards on whether Carey Price will be in goal for Game 2 on Monday. The Canadian Olympian appeared to injure his right knee in a collision with New York forward Chris Kreider but remained in the contest and yielded four goals in two periods - including two in less than a minute - before sitting out the third.

Price skated for approximately five minutes but did not take part in Sunday's practice, leading to speculation that Peter Budaj may receive the start. "Today was an optional practice," Montreal coach Michel Therrien said. "It was a therapy day for Carey. We'll see if he's able to play." Defenseman Ryan McDonagh certainly was able to play on Saturday, collecting a goal and three assists to etch his name into the franchise record book as the Rangers emphatically drew first blood in the series.

ABOUT THE RANGERS: While New York recorded seven goals in the opener, perhaps none was more important - at least psychologically - than the one by Rick Nash. The struggling forward scored on the power play during the third period for his first tally of the postseason and just his second in 27 playoff games as a member of the Rangers. Nash's inclusion with the man advantage came as a result of the absence of Derick Brassard, who is considered day-to-day by coach Alain Vigneault after exiting Game 1 with an undisclosed injury.

ABOUT THE CANADIENS: As one might expect, former Ranger Brandon Prust and Therrien took issue with Kreider's collision with Price. "In this situation, he went skates first right into his leg," Prust said. "We call that accidentally on purpose." Prust attempted to retaliate against Kreider, but instead drew a double-minor and 10-minute misconduct that led to three power-play goals. "Let's put it this way," Therrien said. "(Kreider) didn't put much effort to avoid contact."

    TRENDS:

    * Rangers are 2-9 in the last 11 meetings in Montreal.
    * Rangers are 4-0 in their last four overall.
    * Canadiens are 5-2 in their last seven home games.
    * Under is 5-2-1 in Canadiens last eight vs. Metropolitan.

    OVERTIME:

    1. McDonagh tied former Rangers captains Brian Leetch, Brad Park and Dave Maloney as defensemen to record four points in a playoff game.

    2. Montreal C Lars Eller collected a goal and an assist in Game 1, increasing his team-leading point total to 11.

    3. Collectively as a team, the Rangers attended the funeral of RW Martin St. Louis' mother on Sunday.

Game of the Day: Canadiens at Rangers
      By Covers.com

Montreal Canadiens at New York Rangers (-172, 5)

Despite seeing his team in a precarious position, Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban dismissed Henrik Lundqvist as "getting a little bit lucky" after the New York Rangers seized a 2-0 advantage in the Eastern Conference final. Subban and the Canadiens will try their luck once again in Game 3 on Thursday as the series shifts to Madison Square Garden. "So I mean, is (Lundqvist) playing well? Yeah, but we’re doing a good job," Subban said. "Some of it is luck, as well. He’s getting a little bit lucky, but that’s what you need in the playoffs."

Call it what you will but the numbers speak for themselves. Lundqvist, who made 40 saves in a 3-1 triumph on Monday, has stopped 162 of 168 shots for a brilliant .964 save percentage and a 1.20 goals-against average during his team's five-game winning streak. Conversely, the Canadiens have endured some back luck since the beginning of the series, most notably Carey Price's knee injury that has sidelined him for the remainder of the conference final.

LINE HISTORY: New York opened as low as -170 and jumped to -182 but is being dealt at most shops at -175. The total opened 5 (Over -120) and is steady at that price.

      INJURY REPORT: Canadiens: A. Emelin (Ques/Undisclosed), C. Price (Out/Leg). Rangers: D. Brassard (Ques/Undisclosed)

WHAT BOOKS SAY: "Considering Montreal just lost two home games to the Rangers, we are a bit surprised that such a big amount of cash - 49 percent - and bets - 44 percent - are backing the Habs +155." - Mike Perry, Sportsbook.ag.

WHAT SHARPS SAY: "Three words: Habs are done. But seriously, we can expect Montreal's best effort of the series here and it's important to note that the Rangers have been a more focused and generally stronger squad away from MSG, so it will be interesting to see how they carry themselves up 2-0 in this series. New York will need another stellar performance from King Henrik between the pipes in the off chance that their inconsistent offense falls back into a slump. Have to think value is with the Habs here, but it's awfully tough to back them without Carey Price." - Covers Expert Sean Murphy.

ABOUT THE CANADIENS: Dustin Tokarski will receive another start on Thursday after yielding three goals on 30 shots in his postseason debut in Game 2. While Michel Therrien credited both Tokarski and the returning Alex Galchenyuk for their respective performances on Monday, the coach stopped short when asked about struggling Thomas Vanek. The Austrian, who was relegated to the fourth line in Wednesday's practice, has been held off the scoresheet in three straight games and registered one shot or fewer in nine of 13 contests in the postseason.

ABOUT THE RANGERS: Ryan McDonagh continues to rub salt in the wound of Montreal, which must bristle at the notion of trading away the defenseman to acquire an ineffective Scott Gomez as part of a seven-player deal in 2009. Back to the present, McDonagh collected a goal and three assists in Game 1 before recording one of each on Monday. Rick Nash ended his pronounced postseason slump by joining Martin St. Louis in scoring in each of the first two games of the conference final.

      TRENDS:

      * Under is 8-1-2 in the last 11 meetings.
      * Under is 14-6-2 in the last 22 meetings in New York.
      * Road team is 4-1 in the last five meetings.

COVERS CONSENSUS: 65 percent of bets are on Rangers while 61 percent are on Over 5.

Rangers at Canadiens: What Bettors Need to Know
        By Covers.com

New York Rangers at Montreal Canadiens (+100, 5)

After scoring the overtime winner on Thursday, Alex Galchenyuk nearly evened the Eastern Conference final at two games apiece, but his bid caromed off the crossbar late in the third period. Martin St. Louis provided the fireworks in the extra session, scoring to extend his point streak to six games and move the New York Rangers within one victory of their first Stanley Cup final appearance in 20 years. The Rangers look to put the nail in the coffin of the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, when they visit the Bell Centre for Game 5.

"It's tough to talk about. You don't want to get ahead of yourself," said Brad Richards, who joined St. Louis in capturing the Cup with Tampa Bay in 2004. At the other end of the spectrum was Galchenyuk, who lamented his missed opportunity on Sunday. "I'm disappointed. I could have ended the game right there, and it would have been 2-2 heading back to Montreal," Galchenyuk said.

ABOUT THE RANGERS: Although the end result was positive, New York put itself behind the 8-ball as it yielded as many power-play opportunities to Montreal in Game 4. "We have got to play smarter," said Carl Hagelin, who made the Canadiens pay by scoring a short-handed goal in the first period on Sunday. Coach Alain Vigneault refused to take issue with the officials for his team's march to the penalty box. "It was us," he said. "They were penalties (and we) can't do that."

ABOUT THE CANADIENS: P.K. Subban scored a goal for his first point of the series, blocked five shots and logged a game-high 33 minutes, 16 seconds of ice time on Sunday. Although the impressive performance ended up in a losing effort, the reigning Norris Trophy winner refused to hang his head while considering the team's predicament. "I've been down 3-1 in a series before, and the tide can turn really quick - so we're prepared to go home and play a good game," he said. Montreal has rallied from a pair of such deficits, besting Boston in 2004 and Washington six years later in first-round matchups.

        TRENDS:

        * Under is 8-1-4 in the last 13 meetings.
        * Road team is 5-2 in the last seven meetings.
        * Rangers are 6-1 in their last seven overall.
        * Under is 4-1-2 in Canadiens last seven vs. Metropolitan.

        OVERTIME:

        1. The Rangers last enjoyed a 3-1 series lead against the Capitals in a 2009 first-round series. New York lost the next three games.

        2. Montreal converted just once on eight power-play opportunities and is 1-for-16 in the series.

        3. St. Louis, Richards and LW Daniel Carcillo are the lone players on the Rangers' roster who have competed in the Stanley Cup final. Vigneault also coached Vancouver to the final in 2011 before falling to the Bruins.

Canadiens at Rangers: What Bettors Need to Know
          By Covers.com

Montreal Canadiens at New York Rangers (-172, 5)

          Rangers lead series 3-2.

Although he recorded his first career postseason hat trick on Tuesday, Rene Bourque wasn't done taking shots at the New York Rangers. "Everybody talks about how he's a great goalie," Bourque said of Henrik Lundqvist following the Montreal Canadiens' 7-4 triumph in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference final. "Has he been better than (Montreal's Dustin Tokarski) this series? I don't think so." Lundqvist looks to silence Bourque and the Canadiens in Game 6 on Thursday as New York attempts to end the chippy series and advance to its first Stanley Cup final in 20 years.

Derek Stepan scored two goals in his return from a one-game absence due to surgery for a broken jaw. Stepan received his injury following a brutal hit from former Ranger Brandon Prust, who served his two-game suspension and is eligible to return on Thursday. Speaking of suspensions, John Moore received a two-game ban on Wednesday for his blindside open-ice hit on Montreal's Dale Weise midway through the third period of Game 5.

ABOUT THE CANADIENS: Bourque has provided quite the boost with his unexpected offense, scoring a team-leading eight goals in the playoffs after mustering just nine in 63 games during the regular season. Lars Eller is also raising some eyebrows as his two assists in Game 5 increased his point total to 13 - most among Montreal forwards. Eller struggled mightily during the end of the regular season, notching just six points in his last 35 contests.

ABOUT THE RANGERS: Ryan McDonagh continues to haunt the Canadiens by adding two assists in Game 5 to increase his point total to nine in five games in the series. McDonagh, who was acquired from Montreal as part of a seven-player deal that included Scott Gomez in 2009, recorded just three points in the previous 14 contests of the playoffs. With Moore sidelined, blue-liner Raphael Diaz is expected to be inserted into the lineup for the first time since playing two games during the second-round series versus Pittsburgh.

          TRENDS:

          * Under is 8-2-4 in the last 14 meetings.
          * Canadiens are 1-4 in their last five games following a win.
          * Over is 4-1-3 in Canadiens last eight road games.
          * Under is 11-4-3 in Rangers last 18 vs. a team with a winning record.

          OVERTIME:

          1. Montreal G Carey Price spent time on the ice for the third straight day on Wednesday. He worked on lateral pushes with his skates and butterfly drops.

          2. Lundqvist answered being pulled in Game 6 of the first-round set versus Philadelphia by stopping 26-of-27 shots in New York's series-clinching victory.

          3. The Rangers have not won a playoff series in fewer than seven games since the 2008 Eastern Conference first-round series against New Jersey.

            NHL Playoffs

Rangers had allowed 11 goals in previous seven games before 7-4 loss in Game 5 debacle that resembled pond hockey; NY won six of last eight games overall, but is just 5-4 at home so far in playoffs. Montreal is 9-5 in last 14 series games, but needs win here to keep series alive; they're 2-3 in last five road games- five of their 16 playoff games went OT. Habs are 10-6 in the playoffs, 5-3 on road. Over is 45-26-14 in playoffs, 6-2-2 this round. Rangers tied Game 5 with three goals in 4:24 span of second period after they pulled Lundqvist; Bourque scored twice after that to get hat trick, keep Montreal alive in series.

Blackhawks at Kings: What Bettors Need to Know
              By Covers.com

Chicago Blackhawks at Los Angeles Kings (-127, 5)

After traveling a long and windy road to stave off elimination, the Chicago Blackhawks need to repeat the feat in Game 6 of the Western Conference final on Friday to keep alive their quest for back-to-back Stanley Cup titles. Veteran Michal Handzus burned his former team by scoring 2:04 into double overtime as Chicago snapped a three-game losing skid with a 5-4 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday. "You see the momentum in this series, how it can shift," Patrick Kane said following his mammoth four-assist performance. "L.A.'s had a lot of it. I think it's our turn now to hold on to it and keep that momentum."

Chicago has struggled with packing momentum into a suitcase, winning just two of eight road games in the postseason. The Blackhawks dropped both contests at Staples Center in the series, losing a 4-3 decision in Game 3 before suffering a 5-2 setback two days later. "They're still do-or-die; we're still one win away from moving on," Los Angeles rookie Tanner Pearson said. "So I think it's going to be the same attitude going in. Hopefully, we come out with a victory."

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS: After securing just one point in the first four contests, Kane adapted well as coach Joel Quenneville shuffled up his line with his team facing elimination. The reigning Conn Smythe Trophy winner was paired with Brandon Saad and Andrew Shaw in Game 5, and trio combined for nine points (one goal, eight assists). "I thought Saad and Shaw were effective (in Game 4) - Kane can add to the mix," Quenneville said. "They had a good couple of periods there, generated some zone time and chances and scored a nice goal."

ABOUT THE KINGS: Anze Kopitar recorded his league-leading 23rd point by notching an assist on Marian Gaborik's NHL-best 11th goal during the first period on Wednesday. The 26-year-old Slovenian has recorded at least one point in 16 of 19 games in the playoffs. As for Gaborik, his goal total trails only Hall-of-Famers Wayne Gretzky (15, 1993) and Luc Robitaille (12, 1991) for the most in franchise postseason history.

              TRENDS:

              * Over is 4-0 in the last four meetings.
              * Home team is 4-1 in the last five meetings.
              * Over is 6-2-1 in Blackhawks last nine road games.

              OVERTIME:

              1. Chicago has scored just one power-play goal on the road in 24 opportunities during the postseason.

              2. Kings C Jeff Carter notched an assist on Pearson's goal midway through the second period on Wednesday. Both players are riding six-game point streaks.

              3. Kane's four-assist effort was the team's first in a playoff contest since Steve Larmer in 1990.

                By Covers.com

Los Angeles Kings at Chicago Blackhawks (-144, 5)

                Series is tied 3-3

After being a virtual no-show in the first four contests, Patrick Kane has been all the rage as the Chicago Blackhawks staved off elimination on two separate occasions to send the Western Conference final to a decisive seventh game. The reigning Conn Smythe Trophy winner looks to continue his sizzling stretch as the defending Stanley Cup-champion Blackhawks host the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday night. Kane followed a four-point performance by scoring his second goal of the contest with 3:45 remaining in the third period to snap a tie as Chicago skated to a 4-3 road triumph in Game 6 on Friday.

"I'm sure it's fun for the fans to watch, but we know (the Kings are) a resilient group," Kane told the Chicago Sun-Times. "They've won two Game 7s on the road in the first two series. It's going to be a tough one." Should the Blackhawks emerge victorious on Sunday, they would vie for their third Stanley Cup title in five years when they face the Original Six-rival New York Rangers. If Los Angeles avoids suffering a third straight setback for the third time this postseason, the Kings would attempt to secure their second title in three years.

LINE HISTORY: Line opened at Blackhawks -144 and moved as high as -151 before falling back to the original line.

INJURY WATCH: Kings: D Robyn Regehr (Out - Knee) Blackhawks: G Nikolai Khabibulin (Out - Shoulder)

WHAT BOOKS SAY: "In a highly contested series's where the Blackhawks have staved off elimination for 2 straight games to tie the series at 3 games a piece. The Kings are 6-0 this spring in elimination games. So far all the action is on the defending choampion Blackhawks, with 71% of the action on the moneyline and 96% of the action on the puck line." - Michael Stewart of Carbonsports.com

ABOUT THE KINGS: Drew Doughty has proven himself to be a winner in his career, collecting gold medals at the World Junior Hockey Championships in 2008 and a pair for Team Canada in the last two Olympic Games - as well as the Stanley Cup title in 2012. The 24-year-old defenseman has also been mammoth in this series, recording three goals and setting up four others in the last five games. "We had two chances to close out this series and we're not going to blow a third one," Doughty said.

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS: Jonathan Toews aptly has been nicknamed "Captain Serious" for his even-keel nature - regardless of the circumstance. "I don’t think anything motivates you like having your back against the wall, potentially walking into a game where your season might end," Toews said with little change in tone. "... We have a chance to stay alive and keep playing hockey for a little while longer." Chicago has done precisely that when series have extended past Game 4 over the last two years - posting a perfect 13-0 mark.

                TRENDS:

*Blackhawks are 51-18 in their last 69 home games.
*Over is 4-1 in Kings last 5 games playing on 1 days rest.
*Home team is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings.
*Kings are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings in Chicago.

                COVERS CONSENSUS:
64 percent of Covers users are backing the Blackhawks at -144.
