A.J. Pollock suffered a right elbow fracture and will require surgery.
Absolutely brutal news for the D-Backs. Pollock has been dealing with elbow soreness for most of the spring and grabbed at the area in obvious pain after sliding into home plate during Friday's game. The team should have a better idea about his timeline on Saturday, but obviously he's looking at an extended absence.

A.J. Pollock (elbow) said Saturday that his goal is to return before the end of the 2016 season.
Pollock fractured his right elbow in Friday's Cactus League contest and is set to undergo surgery. There is still no clear timetable for his potential recovery, but it sounds like he's looking at an extended absence and there's no guarantee he plays at all during 2016.

Cardinals placed C Brayan Pena on the 15-day disabled list with loose bodies in his left knee.

The veteran backstop will require surgery to alleviate the issue and is expected to miss 2-4 weeks. He sustained the injury when he slipped and fell in the visitor's dugout recently. Eric Fryer is expected to make the Opening Day roster as the backup to Yadier Molina.

Indians placed OF Michael Brantley on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 25, with a right shoulder injury.

Brantley looked to be ahead of schedule in his recovery from labrum surgery, but he had a little setback in spring training and that guaranteed a DL stint. The good news is that, if all goes well, he should return sometime in April. Rajai Davis should get most of the starts in left field while Brantley is out.

Dodgers placed 2B Howie Kendrick on the 15-day disabled list with strained left calf.

Kendrick is making progress with the calf and hopes to be back on April 12. Until then, the Dodgers' second base job will be handled by Chase Utley.

Dodgers placed C Yasmani Grandal on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right forearm.

The club had been hoping Grandal was going to be ready for the start of the regular season season, but he needs more time. A.J. Ellis will be the primary catcher while Grandal is on the shelf. It shouldn't be more than a couple of weeks.

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Sunday that Jordan Walden will miss "a few months" after being diagnosed with a Grade 2 right lat strain.

Walden dealt with rotator cuff issues last season and now has a significant tear in his lat. Basically, his shoulder is shot. It sounds like he'll again try and rehab it rather than have surgery, but it would be a surprise if he makes a contribution in 2016.

Reds manager Bryan Price said Sunday that he has no reason to doubt Anthony DeSclafani's (oblique) availability for April 10.

DeSclafani has been nursing a minor oblique injury, but he's made steady progress and is expected to make a start in the first week of the season. Tim Melville is likely to get one start while DeSclafani is out.

Re: MLB Injury And Daily Lineup Alerts

Manny Machado is batting leadoff for the Orioles in their season opener Monday versus the Twins.
There was some thought that Rule 5 Draft pick Joey Rickard might get the leadoff nod, but Orioles manager Buck Showalter will go with his star third baseman instead.

Matt Duffy is batting sixth on Opening Day against the Brewers.
Duffy hit third a bunch this spring, but Giants manager Bruce Bochy has decided against that experiment with meaningful baseball now getting underway. The full San Francisco lineup against Brewers right-hander Wily Peralta: Denard Span CF, Joe Panik 2B, Buster Posey C, Hunter Pence RF, Brandon Belt 1B, Matt Duffy 3B, Brandon Crawford SS, Madison Bumgarner SP, Angel Pagan LF.

Domingo Santana is batting leadoff for the Brewers in Monday's season opener against the Giants.
The young outfield prospect has a tough first task in Giants ace Madison Bumgarner. The full Opening Day lineup for Milwaukee: Domingo Santana RF, Jonathan Villar SS, Ryan Braun LF, Jonathan Lucroy C, Chris Carter 1B, Aaron Hill 3B, Scooter Gennett 2B, Wily Peralta SP, Keon Broxton CF.

Adam Lind is starting at first base in the Mariners' season opener Monday against the Rangers.

Texas is throwing ace southpaw Cole Hamels, but Seattle skipper Scott Servais wants to go with the left-handed-hitting Lind instead of newcomer Dae Ho Lee. Servais said Lee, a right-handed-hitting slugger out of South Korea, will start Tuesday versus Rangers left-hander Martin Perez. The full Opening Day lineup for the M's: Nori Aoki LF, Ketel Marte SS, Robinson Cano 2B, Nelson Cruz RF, Kyle Seager 3B, Franklin Gutierrez DH, Adam Lind 1B, Chris Iannetta C, Leonys Martin CF. Felix Hernandez is pitching.

Travis Shaw is starting at third base and batting sixth on Opening Day against the Indians.

Shaw stole the third base job this spring from Pablo Sandoval, who will be on the bench Monday in Cleveland. The full Opening Day lineup for Boston versus Indians ace Corey Kluber: Mookie Betts RF, Dustin Pedroia 2B, Xander Bogaerts SS, David Ortiz DH, Hanley Ramirez 1B, Travis Shaw 3B, Brock Holt LF, Blake Swihart C, Jackie Bradley CF. David Price is on the bump on a frigid day in Cleveland.

Delino DeShields is leading off in the Rangers' Opening Day game Monday versus the Mariners.

The lineup for Texas is as expected against Seattle ace Felix Hernandez: Delino DeShields CF, Shin-Soo Choo RF, Prince Fielder DH, Adrian Beltre 3B, Mitch Moreland 1B, Ian Desmond LF, Rougned Odor 2B, Elvis Andrus SS, Robinson Chirinos C. Cole Hamels will be on the mound for the host team.

Anthony Rendon is batting second for the Nationals on Opening Day against the Braves.

No surprises on Dusty Baker's first lineup card as the Nationals' manager. Here is the full batting order for Washington versus Braves right-hander Julio Teheran: Ben Revere CF, Anthony Rendon 3B, Bryce Harper RF, Ryan Zimmerman 1B, Daniel Murphy 2B, Jayson Werth LF, Wilson Ramos C, Danny Espinosa SS, Max Scherzer SP.

Rajai Davis is leading off for the Indians in Monday's season opener against the Red Sox.

He's starting in center field, with Marlon Byrd handling left field, Collin Cowgill starting in right field, and Cactus League darling Tyler Naquin (a left-handed hitter) riding the pine. The full Opening Day lineup for Cleveland versus Red Sox lefty David Price: Rajai Davis CF, Jason Kipnis 2B, Francisco Lindor SS, Mike Napoli 1B, Carlos Santana DH, Yan Gomes C, Marlon Byrd LF, Juan Uribe 3B, Collin Cowgill RF. Corey Kluber is the Indians' opening-game starting pitcher.

Ender Inciarte is in the leadoff spot for the Braves in Monday's season opener against the Nationals.

There's not much to like about this Opening Day lineup for Atlanta against Nats ace Max Scherzer: Ender Inciarte CF, Erick Aybar SS, Freddie Freeman 1B, Adonis Garcia 3B, Nick Markakis RF, Hector Olivera LF, A.J. Pierzynski C, Jace Peterson 2B, Julio Teheran SP. One positive for this game is that the forecast around Turner Field calls for 75-degree weather and sunny skies. It's snowing in Cleveland and Monday's opener between the Astros and Yankees in New York had to be postponed due to storms.

Byron Buxton is hitting ninth for the Twins on Opening Day against the Orioles.

The dynamic prospect will be in the gutter of the Twins' batting order until he hits his way out of it. Here is Minnesota's full Opening Day lineup versus O's right-hander Chris Tillman: Brian Dozier 2B, Joe Mauer 1B, Miguel Sano RF, Trevor Plouffe 3B, Eddie Rosario LF, Byung Ho Park DH, Eduardo Escobar SS, Kurt Suzuki C, Byron Buxton CF. Ervin Santana will be on the mound.

Cesar Hernandez is at leadoff for the Phillies in Monday's season opener against the Reds.

Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said last week that he wanted to try Hernandez as the club's regular leadoff man, and it could be a nice spot for the speedy infielder (at least for fantasy purposes). The full lineup for the Phillies, who are taking on Reds right-hander Raisel Iglesias: Cesar Hernandez 2B, Odubel Herrera CF, Maikel Franco 3B, Ryan Howard 1B, Carlos Ruiz C, Cedric Hunter LF, Peter Bourjos RF, Freddy Galvis SS, Jeremy Hellickson SP.

Zack Cozart is batting leadoff for the Reds on Opening Day against the Phillies.

Cozart is 30 years old with a .284 career on-base percentage, but that doesn't seem to matter to manager Bryan Price. It does make the shortstop a decent bargain play in DFS games. Here is the full lineup for Cincinnati against Phillies right-hander Jeremy Hellickson: Zack Cozart SS, Eugenio Suarez 3B, Joey Votto 1B, Brandon Phillips 2B, Jay Bruce RF, Devin Mesoraco C, Adam Duvall LF, Raisel Iglesias SP, Billy Hamilton CF.

Madison Bumgarner was being treated for flu symptoms on Sunday.
He is going to make his Opening Day start Monday in Milwaukee, though Giants manager Bruce Bochy acknowledged that he'll be watching his ace closely.

Athletics placed LHP Felix Doubront on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left elbow.

Doubront suffered the injury in his final spring training start Saturday versus the Giants. It was originally called forearm tightness, but tests apparently showed some form of structural damage. He had been lined up to serve as Oakland's fifth starter to open the 2016 season. Maybe the time has already come for Jesse Hahn's return to the majors.

Logan Morrison is batting second for the Rays in Monday night's game against the Blue Jays.

It's almost the exact same lineup the Rays used in Sunday's season opener, swapping Curt Casali for Hank Conger at catcher. Here is the full Tampa Bay batting order for the second game between these clubs, with R.A. Dickey going for Toronto: Logan Forsythe 2B, Logan Morrison 1B, Evan Longoria 3B, Corey Dickerson DH, Desmond Jennings LF, Brad Miller SS, Steven Souza RF, Kevin Kiermaier CF, Curt Casali C. Drew Smyly is on the mound versus the lethal Blue Jays offense.

A.J. Ellis is starting at catcher for the Dodgers on Monday afternoon against the Padres.

Yasmani Grandal landed on the disabled list Sunday with a forearm injury, giving Ellis at least a week of action behind the plate. The veteran catcher is capable of providing fantasy production in two-catcher leagues while he is getting regular playing time. Here is the Dodgers' full lineup for Monday's season opener versus right-hander Tyson Ross: Chase Utley 2B, Corey Seager SS, Justin Turner 3B, Adrian Gonzalez 1B, Yasiel Puig RF, Carl Crawford LF, Joc Pederson CF, A.J. Ellis C, Clayton Kershaw SP.
