With baseball on the brain following the 2022 All-Star Game and so many teams in the hunt, and with the playoffs expanding to 12 teams this year, the days leading up to the trade deadline (Aug. 2) should be fascinating.

Per Axios Sports, while most of the league battles it out in the messy middle, a record-tying number of teams are on pace for both 100 wins and 100 losses (four each):

    100 wins: Yankees (113-win pace), Dodgers (108), Astros (105), Mets (101)

    100 losses: Nationals (109), Athletics (105), Reds (101), Cubs (100)

2019 was the only season with four 100-win teams. There have been three seasons with four 100-loss teams, including each of the last two full seasons (2019, 2021).

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcherTony Gonsolin is one of 10 players in MLB history to begin a season with 17 starts without taking a loss.

As you would expect, he was the losing pitcher in the All-Star Game.

The last undefeated hurler to suffer an All-Star defeat was in 2008 when Brad Lidge was 2-0 with a perfect 41 for 41 in saves, yet took the loss in the All-Star Game that July, his only one of the year.

Per ESPN, the Seattle Mariners' current 14-game winning streak is the longest ever in MLB history by a team heading into the All-Star break.

The only other teams to have a 10+ game winning streak at the All-Star break (1935 Tigers, 1975 Reds) each won the World Series.
