    And The Runners Up Are...
As we called out in this spot yesterday, we'll soon be watching the best players in football take the field. 45 days, to be exact.

With it, thanks to Pro Football Focus, our review of the top ranked players in the league continues. PFF's next tier of the top players in the league, following #1 Aaron Donald, #2 Trent Williams, and #3 Aaron Rodgers are players that could very likely be in the MVP chase this season. They are –

#4 – DAVANTE ADAMS, WR, RAIDERS
Adams remains the best receiver in football. Over the past two seasons, he has the highest PFF receiving grade among receivers and has gained the most yards per route run (2.88). He now teams up with his college quarterback in Las Vegas to see if he can replicate the connection he had with Rodgers in Green Bay.

#5 – PATRICK MAHOMES, QB, CHIEFS
In a "down" year, Mahomes threw for over 4,800 yards with 37 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. That's a career year for many quarterbacks, but we know there's more in the tank for Mahomes. Despite Tyreek Hill's departure, Mahomes still boasts the best pure passing ability in the game right now.

#6 – JOSH ALLEN, QB BILLS
Allen proved that his breakout 2020 season was no fluke, as he was once again phenomenal in 2021. He now has back-to-back PFF grades above 90.0, and he recorded the best grade at the position in the playoffs (95.8). Allen's combination of physical tools is unrivaled at the position, and his running ability makes the Bills' offense so difficult to stop in "got to have it" situations.

    Amazing But True
Nolan Ryan holds the MLB record for strikeouts (5,714) and no-hitters (seven), yet never won a Cy Young (six top five-finishes).

The next closest pitcher to the Ryan Express' seven no-no's was Sandy Koufax with four, while only six have ever thrown at least three – including Justin Verlander.

Ironically, on June 11, 1990, at 43 years and 131 days old, Ryan became the oldest pitcher in AL/NL history to toss a no-hitter. Less than a year later, Ryan topped himself at the age of 44 years and 90 days, firing the seventh and final no-no of his career.

In addition he has 12 one-hitters and 18 two-hitters. He is also the only pitcher in AL/NL history with at least 5,000 strikeouts.

    Yes, the man could pitch.
