Re: In The Dugout for Friday. 5/9

Seattle just missed as a play. There was just no decent pitching numbers to back them.
They also miss in the +4. So far Diaz has worked no games this year at today's price.
Then in the previous 3 seasons only 2 per year and all went 1-1. So no edge there.

              MLB Odds and Picks
              By: Micah Roberts
              Sportingnews.com

LAS VEGAS -- The Indians have won three straight. The Rays have lost three straight. Streaks such as these are traditionally one of the first baseball trends to roll with. In this case, siding with the Indians makes a lot of sense, but more important than Cleveland’s streak is that the Rays’ Jake Odorizzi (1-3, 6.83 ERA) hasn’t been able to help his team to a win in his past five starts.

He's been favored in five of six starts this season. Bettors are -5.3 units if siding with Tampa Bay in his starts, which is fifth worst in the league (Santiago, LAA: -8.4 units) – or fifth best if betting against him.

Strangely, Odorizzi finds himself favored again (-114) despite his own issues and the Rays losing five straight at home. A sixth straight loss at Tropicana Field would mark their longest home losing streak since 2005.

A sidelight of tonight’s game: it’s the first meeting between these teams since October 2nd, a 4-0 Rays win at Cleveland in the AL wild-card game.

The Indians will counter with Cory Kluber (2-3, 4.14), who has been at his best over his past three starts, including registering 13 Ks and allowing only one run in eight innings at Chicago on Sunday. The White Sox would win the game, 4-3. A great effort wasted. Three starts ago, he allowed only one unearned run at Kansas City in a complete game, 5-1 win. He had 11 Ks, too.

This is largely a matter of one team playing well and the other going through a rough stretch. The Indians come off a season-high 15 hits in their 9-4 win Thursday against Minnesota, where there was an Asdrubal Cabrera sighting with a four-hit day. And from the struggle category, we have the Rays driving in only four of 26 runners from scoring position, a solid reason for being swept at home by Baltimore.

There’s just a lot more things to like about Cleveland in this matchup. Or you could just say, ‘the Indians have won three straight, and the Rays have lost three straight’ while feeling confident onward to the bet window. Indians +104.

              Angels to end skid?

The Blue Jays have won a season-high five straight, including taking all four from the Phillies in a home-and-away series, while the Angels have lost two straight, hitting only .176 in a three-game set at home against the Yankees. However, we like the Angels' bats to bounce back and give Garrett Richards some breathing room to work with and continue his mastery over hitters (.184 opponents average) this season. The Angels hit .315 with 31 runs in their past four games (2013) at Rogers Centre and have won seven of their last eight there. The Angels (-107) are a good play here.

              Giants have Dodgers number?

The Giants have won six of their last seven at Dodger Stadium since Sept. 13, while the Dodgers have won only six games at home all season (6-10). The bitter rivals have hooked up seven times already this season with San Francisco taking five of the games. And in their last four meetings, the teams have combined to score only 15 runs, which makes UNDER tonight's total of 7 runs seem attractive.

Madison Bumgarner is 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA against the Dodgers this season, but in eight career starts at Dodger Stadium, he’s 6-2 with a 1.98 ERA. On the other side, we have Paul Maholm, who is 0-3 with a 7.20 ERA in his last four starts against the Giants, including two this year.

Giants and UNDER are the plays.

              Friday selections:

              Indians (Kluber) +104 at Rays

              Giants (Bumgarner) -120 at Dodgers

              Giants/Dodgers UNDER 7 (EV)

Angels (Richards) -103 at Blue Jays

              Mariners (Maurer) +105 vs Royals

White Sox (Rienzo) +109 vs Diamondbacks

                Friday's MLB Betting Cheat Sheet
                Covers.com

                Lower Than Low

The four Thursday games with the lowest totals all finished Under on a bizarre day for bettors. San Francisco (7) defeated the Dodgers 3-1, Miami (7) downed San Diego 3-1, Baltimore (7) beat Tampa Bay 3-1 and Seattle (6.5) edged Kansas City 1-0.

                Big Dog Eats

The Houston Astros overcame +166 odds to record a 6-2 road victory over the Detroit Tigers. It was just the second win in seven games for the Astros as underdogs of +150 or greater.

                Unfamiliar Territory

The Cincinnati Reds are whopping -176 favorites for Friday's tilt with the visiting Colorado Rockies. It's just the second time all season the Reds have been installed as faves of -150 or greater. They fell flat in their previous outing (-172), dropping a 9-4 decision to the Chicago Cubs.

                Pitching Notes

                * Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish has provided strong value for bettors of late, going 8-1 over his previous nine starts despite settling for five no-decisions over that span. Darvish and the Rangers (-148, 8.5) host the Boston Red Sox on Friday.

                * Miami Marlins phenom Jose Fernandez makes his first career West Coast start against the San Diego Padres (+122, 5.5) Friday. Fernandez is 5-10 O/U in 15 career road starts, none further west than Arizona.

                Hitting Notes

                * Toronto outfielder Colby Rasmus tied for the team lead with his ninth homer in Thursday's 12-6 win over Philadelphia. The Blue Jays are just 5-4 but 8-1 O/U in games in which Rasmus goes deep entering Friday's game against the Los Angeles Angels (-106, 9)

                * Atlanta outfielder Jason Heyward went 0-for-4 in Wednesday's 7-1 loss to St. Louis and enters Friday's game against the visiting Chicago Cubs (+165, 6.5) mired in a 2-for-17 slump. His struggles have contributed to the Braves' 1-8 mark over their last nine games and their 1-5 O/U record in the previous six.

                Total Streak

Baltimore Orioles (1-5 O/U): The Orioles pitching staff has been sensational, limiting opponents to three runs or fewer in four of their past six games. That has helped prop up an offense that has scored three runs or fewer four times over that same stretch.

                Prop of the Day

Wagering against the longball in Toronto could be a lucrative play Friday. Bettors face +600 odds that no home runs will be hit between the Blue Jays and Angels. The Rogers Centre has been the second-most generous home run park in the majors so far in 2014.

                Key Injuries

                * Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis (oblique) is expected to begin a rehab assignment this weekend. The Orioles are 7-3 and +478 units with Davis on the shelf, but are just 3-7 O/U in that span.

                * Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Juan Uribe left Thursday's loss to San Francisco with a sore right hamstring. Uribe is in a 2-for-17 slide during which the Dodgers have gone 1-4 against the moneyline and 2-3 O/U.

                Weather Watch

                * Wind at Citi Field will blow out to left field at 7 mph for Friday's game between the host Mets and the Phillies (+110, 7.5). Teams went 1-5 O/U in six games under similar wind conditions a season ago.

                Umpire Note of the Day

The home team is 16-4 in umpire Will Little's last 20 games behind home plate. Little will call the balls and strikes for the game between the Giants and the Dodgers (+117, 7).
