Game of the Day: NCAA Tournament National Championship Game
    By Covers.com

    (1) Wisconsin Badgers vs. (1) Duke Blue Devils (+1, 140)

The NCAA Tournament national championship game features two front-runners for the Wooden Award, two of the top coaches in the game and two teams looking to ride the momentum from impressive victories on Saturday. When fellow No. 1 seeds Wisconsin and Duke square off Monday in Indianapolis, all eyes will be focused on the matchup between the Badgers' Frank Kaminsky and the Blue Devils' Jahlil Okafor, although both big men are complemented by plenty of talent.

Perhaps nowhere is the talent display greater than on the sidelines, where Duke's Mike Krzyzewski is aiming for his fifth national title - and his third in Indianapolis - while Wisconsin's Bo Ryan is trying to lead the Badgers to their first championship since 1941. Kaminsky scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds Saturday as the Badgers upset previously undefeated Kentucky 71-64. The Blue Devils took Saturday's first semifinal with an 81-61 triumph against Michigan State led by Okafor's 18 points, six rebounds and two blocks. This game also is a rematch from a Dec. 3 contest that saw Duke shoot 65.2 percent in handing Wisconsin one of its three losses - and its only home defeat.

LINE HISTORY: Most shops opened the game at a pick'em, but that's since been moved to Duke +1.

WHAT CAPPERS SAY: "Lots of moving pieces this championship game tilt, starting with revenge incentive for the Badgers from a 10-point loss earlier this season, Wisconsin's only home defeat this campaign. While Bo Ryan sports a 15-6 ATS career record in games versus ACC opposition, the Badgers will need to overcome the Big Ten’s nasty 1-7 SU and ATS mark in title games dating back to 1992. Meanwhile the Blue Devils enter off a 20-point thrashing of Michigan State knowing teams in this round off a spread win of 14 or more points are just 2-5 SU and 1-6 ATS when facing a greater than .840 foe. Then again ACC teams counter with a sharp 8-3 SU and ATS in Big Dance finales. Pick your poison. Either way this has all the earmarks of a classic confrontation." Covers Expert Marc Lawrence

WHAT BOOKS SAY: "This is the best matchup we could’ve hoped for. We’ve gotten, and will continue to get, very even action regarding the side. The public will be on Duke while the regular bettors, including a lot of wiseguys, that have been backing Wisconsin throughout the tournament aren’t about to back off the Badgers now. They are going to have to play another perfect game like the one against Kentucky to knock off the Devils. It’s certainly plausible because this is a disciplined, well-coached squad, but Duke has a clear advantage in most areas." John Lester, senior lines manager for Bookmaker.eu.

ABOUT WISCONSIN (36-3): The Badgers have won 21 of their last 22 games, including each of the last four victories by exactly seven points, and avenged a 2014 Final Four loss to Kentucky with Saturday's emotional victory. “This is something we’ve been talking about since Day 1 this season,” Wisconsin forward Sam Dekker told reporters. “Look where we are now.” Kaminsky (18.7 points, 8.1 rebounds) was recently named the Associated Press Player of the Year and is the favorite for the Wooden Award, while Dekker (13.9 points) has averaged 20.6 points on 61.3 percent shooting during the NCAA Tournament.

ABOUT DUKE (34-4): The Blue Devils have won 17 of 18, capped by a rout of Michigan State in which Okafor was complemented by fellow freshman star Justise Winslow (19 points, nine rebounds) and sturdy senior Quinn Cook (17 points). "It's an amazing thing, I mean, just to be in the Final Four, but to play on Monday night is the ultimate honor," Krzyzewski said to the media. "I hope our guys get their rest and we can get the same type of effort we got tonight. Now they've got a chance to play for a national championship, and damn, damn, how great is that?" The keys for the Blue Devils will include getting off to a better start - they overcame an early 14-6 deficit versus Michigan State - and improved 3-point shooting, as they were 2-of-10 against the Spartans.

    TRENDS:

*Under is 6-1 in Blue Devils last 7 overall.
*Blue Devils are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
*Badgers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
*Over is 5-1 in Badgers last 6 overall.

COVERS CONSENSUS: According to Covers Consensus, 51 percent of bettors are on the Badgers.

    College Basketball Knowledge

My question for Wisconsin is how much energy do they have 48 hours after upsetting undefeated Kentucky? Kaminsky/Hayes both played 37:00, Dekker played 34:00; all starters played 31+.

Duke had a fairly stress-free game in pounding Michigan State.

Ryan won all four of his national title games, but they were at the D-3 level, not exactly the same, but he has won four national titles, same as Krzyzewski.

Duke shot 67.6% inside arc, 7-12 outside it, scoring 1.29 ppg in a 80-70 win at Wisconsin Dec 3; Duke held Wisconsin to 39.4% inside arc that night in Wisconsin- Jackson had 25 for Badgers that night - he played only 12 minutes Saturday- Badgers' bench played total of only 29:00.

Wisconsin is #54 in experience, Duke #331.

Blue Devils are 13-2 vs Big 14 teams in NCAAs (since '89).

Coach K is 4-4 in national title games, 0-3 vs #1 seeds.

Since 1987, favorites are 3-2 in finals with two #1 seeds; in four titles Krzyzewski has won, he was favored by 3.5/6/3/7.5 points in the national final, against seeds 3-6-2-5.

Teams from Big 14 are 0-5 in their last five national finals; 2000 was league's last title, when Michigan State won.

Favorites are 8-3 vs spread in last eleven national titles.

What Should Bettors Take From Duke-Wisconsin First Meeting
        By Covers.com

The Duke Blue Devils and Wisconsin Badgers battle for the NCAA tournament title Monday night, with oddsmakers opening this game at a pick’em and moving to Wisconsin -1 with early money on the Badgers.

This isn’t the first time college basketball bettors have sized up these two power programs, with Duke and Wisconsin doing battle back in December as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Blue Devils took an 80-70 victory in that game but how much should bettors look into that previous meeting – if at all - when handicapping Monday’s title game?

        Steve Merril

Take: “Duke out-rebounded Wisconsin 28-25, but the Badgers had an 8-3 edge on the offensive glass. Those offensive rebounds lead to second-chance points and in a game priced as a pick, the team that wins that battle will likely come out on top in this game.”

Leave: “The result of the first game. Duke and Wisconsin played way back in early December, and the teams are vastly different now. Traevon Jackson scored 25 points in 32 minutes for the Badgers, but he is just a role player now as he's played just 28 total minutes in their five tournament games combined.”

        Bryan Power

Take: “Both teams will still score plenty of points. Whether or not that means the Over hits remains up for debate. But these offenses are too good to both be held down.”

Leave: “The team's respective shooting percentages from that first game. Duke shot a preposterous 65.2 percent from the field in Madison on December 3 while Wisconsin shot only 40.7 percent. Look for those percentages to be a lot more even this go around.”

        Nick Parsons

Take: “Rasheed Sulaimon scored 14 points for Duke but is no longer on the team, which also hurts Dukes depth off the bench. Traveon Jackson had 25 for Wisconsin but hasn't played a lot because of a broken foot. Decker did not play well because of an ankle injury.”

Leave: “Everything. It was a game in early December and both teams have changed and gotten better. Also this is the National Championship Game, so what happened in the past doesn't matter.”

          Duke vs. Wisconsin
          By Brian Edwards
          VegasInsider.com

Sixty-six teams have been sent home from the 2015 NCAA Tournament. Just two remain, Duke and Wisconsin, who will collide Monday night in the finals at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Most betting shops opened the game as a pick 'em with a total of 141. As of late Sunday night, most spots had the Badgers favored by one with the total slightly reduced to 140. For first-half wagers, the side is a pick 'em and the total is 65.5 points.

Wisconsin (36-3 straight up, 21-17-1 against the spread) advanced the title game by taking out previously-undefeated Kentucky by a 71-64 count as a five-point underdog. The Badgers hooked up money-line supporters with a +200 return (risk $100 to win $200). The 135 combined points slipped 'over' the 131.5-point total when Wisconsin's Bronson Koenig buried a pair of free throws with 12 seconds remaining to give his team a 68-64 cushion.

With the game knotted at 60-60 with 1:43 remaining, Sam Dekker took a pass on the right wing. He penetrated to his left before stepping back beyond the arc and draining a 3-pointer for the ages. Moments later, UK's Trey Lyles was whistled for a charging call to give the Badgers the ball back.

At the 1:06 mark, UK's Aaron Harrison fouled Dekker in the act of shooting. Dekker would hit the first to make it a two-possession game, but his second free throw was off the mark. Down by four, the Wildcats got a huge 3-point play the hard way from Aaron Harrison to trim the deficit to 64-63.

On the ensuing possession, Wisconsin went to its horse Frank Kaminsky, who drew a foul from Karl Anthony-Towns and knocked down both crucial free throws. Towns would draw a foul and got to the stripe for two shots with 16 ticks left, but he made just one of two. Koenig's aforementioned free throws put the game on ice.

Kaminsky finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots, hooking up his backers for proposition bets on 'over' 19.5 points. Dekker added 16 points, while Koenig and Nigel Hayes finished with 12 points apiece.

Duke (34-4 SU, 23-14-1 ATS) hasn't tasted defeat to a team not named Notre Dame since losing at home to Miami on Jan. 13. After falling behind 14-6 to Michigan State in the opening minutes of Saturday's national semifinal, it was all Blue Devils as they cruised to an 81-61 win as 5.5-point favorites. The 142 combined points went 'over' the 138-point tally.

After making 5-of-7 shots to start the game, the Spartans made only 3-of-20 over the rest of the first half. Duke led by 11 at intermission and quickly pushed its lead to 20 early in the second half. From there, MSU never got closer than 13.

Justice Winslow needed only seven shots from the field to score a team-best 19 points. The freshman also had nine rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. Jahlil Okafor finished with 18 points, six boards, two steals and two blocked shots. Quinn Cook was also in double figures with 17 points.

This is the ninth national-championship game appearance for Krzyzewski, who is seeking his fifth national title. Ryan is making his first coaching appearance in the finals.

We should note that the Blue Devils have already bagged a pair of championships in Indy. They beat Kansas for the 1991 title and took out Butler in 2010.

The key matchup will take place in the paint between a pair of elite centers in Kaminsky and Okafor. If either can get the other in foul trouble, it will be a monster boost.

These teams met in Madison on Dec. 3 when Duke won an 80-70 decision as a four-point road underdog. The 150 combined points soared 'over' the 135.5-point total.

Freshman guard Tyus Jones paced the Blue Devils with 22 points, six rebounds and four assists compared to just one turnover. Okafor and Cook added 13 points apeice. Rasheed Sulaimon, who was kicked off the team in late January, had 14 points.

In the losing effort, Traevon Jackson scored a game-high 25 points. Kaminsky finished with 17 points and nine rebounds. We should note that Dekker struggled against Duke, producing only five points and four rebounds in 24 minutes of playing time.

Jackson has now played three games since returning from a broken foot that had him out of Wisconsin's lineup from early January until last weekend. He contributed six points, two rebounds and two assists in 12 minutes of action against UK.

The 'over' is 19-17 overall for Duke, but the 'under' was on a 6-0 roll until Saturday's win against MSU saw the 'over' hit. The 'under' is 8-2 in the Blue Devils' last 10 games.

The 'under' is 20-19 overall for Wisconsin, but the 'over' has hit in its last three games and five of the last six.

Tip-off is scheduled for 9:20 p.m. Eastern on CBS.
