Preview: Aggies (18-5) at Crimson Tide (13-9)

    Date: February 10, 2016 7:00 PM EDT

Texas A&M has an opportunity to get back into first place in the SEC if it can break out of its funk this week.

The 15th-ranked Aggies will first have to avoid another road loss Wednesday night against Alabama, which is seeking another win over a Top 25 opponent.

Texas A&M lost its lead in the SEC by dropping three of four and suffered its first home loss Saturday, 81-78 to then-No. 25 South Carolina. The Aggies' other two league defeats came on the road to middle-of-the-pack teams Arkansas and Vanderbilt, sandwiched around a 72-62 victory over then-No. 14 Iowa State in the Big 12/SEC Challenge on Jan. 30.

"I don't think it was the game plan or the coaches doing something wrong. It was the players, including myself, not being ready to play well enough," said guard Alex Caruso, who had a season-high 16 points Saturday. "It's up to us to get our motors going and be ready to play every game."

The Aggies (18-5, 7-3) are facing another two games away from home capped by a matchup with SEC-leading LSU on Saturday. Winning each of those contests would push them into at least a tie for first depending in large part how the Tigers fare at South Carolina on Wednesday night.

First, the Aggies will have to avoid becoming Alabama's next upset victim. In their first season under coach Avery Johnson, the Crimson Tide (13-9, 4-6) are 3-2 against ranked opponents after losing 21 straight before his arrival.

They blew out then-No. 19 South Carolina 73-50 in Tuscaloosa in the latest such matchup Jan. 13. That was also Alabama's lone victory in its first six SEC games, but it has won two straight and three of four after topping Missouri 80-71 on Saturday.

Johnson will face a team with which he's well acquainted. His son, Avery Johnson Jr., played 13 games as a freshman for Texas A&M in 2014-15 and is sitting out this season after transferring to Alabama.

"We don't ever take anything for granted. There are no assumptions. We're going to go in there like a clean sheet of paper, like we've never seen them before, even though we spent a year watching them and being behind the scenes," the Crimson Tide coach said. "Junior will give us some information, but at the same time, we've got to execute. They're an outstanding team."

Alabama is hoping to get second-leading scorer Shannon Hale back from a foot injury that's kept him out the past two games. Johnson said Hale could have played 15 minutes Saturday but he chose to let him keep healing.

Hale, averaging 11.3 points, has a combined 36 in his past two games. Riley Norris, averaging 8.6, has totaled 34 in the last two and scored a team-best 18 against Missouri.

Norris, though, had seven points in 45 minutes in Alabama's two wins against Texas A&M last season.

The Crimson Tide, 8-3 at home, have won in four of the Aggies' five all-time visits.

Preview: Friars (18-6) at Golden Eagles (15-9)

      Date: February 10, 2016 7:00 PM EDT

Experiencing another untimely slump, Providence's season is beginning to play out much like the last.

The 20th-ranked Friars hope to change that trend Wednesday night by reversing their dubious history at Marquette, a traditional roadblock on their Big East schedule.

After rising to eighth in the Top 25 off a 14-1 start and later earning a breakthrough overtime win at Villanova on Jan. 24, Providence (18-6, 6-5 Big East) has fallen to the middle of the conference pack by dropping three of four. The Friars have lost two straight for the first time this season after a 72-60 defeat in Saturday's rematch with the current No. 1 Wildcats followed a 77-70 setback at DePaul last Tuesday.

Providence encountered a similar slide last year, splitting its final 10 conference regular-season games after winning six of its first eight.

"It's a long season, but we're still in good shape," coach Ed Cooley said. "It's tough with the way we've played lately. We don't need anybody being negative. It's not the end of the world because we lost a basketball game. It's a journey and you teach and encourage and we'll look to continue to improve.'

Winning at Marquette (15-9, 4-7) would qualify as an upgrade, as Providence is 0-9 all-time on the road in the series with the Golden Eagles winning the last six in Milwaukee by an average of 18.8 points. They also upset the then-No. 8 Friars 65-64 in Providence on Jan. 5 when star freshman Henry Ellenson rejected Kris Dunn's 15-footer at the buzzer for their 12th victory in the schools' last 14 meetings.

The young Golden Eagles have been expectedly inconsistent since, losing three straight in mid-January before winning three in a row. They've struggled defensively in dropping their last two, with Seton Hall shooting 50 percent in a 79-62 victory last Wednesday and then-No. 6 Xavier going 13 of 20 from 3-point range in Saturday's 90-82 win.

Marquette trailed by one with 2:15 left but turned it over on three consecutive possessions as the Musketeers pulled away with a 7-0 run.

'Turnovers have been our Achilles heel all year,' coach Steve Wojciechowski said. 'We have some amazing turnovers at costly times. Against a team like Xavier, there isn't any margin for error. You can't have empty possessions.'

That could be an issue as well against Providence, which leads the Big East with 15.3 takeaways per game and has the conference's reigning defensive player of the year in Dunn, second in Division I in steals (3.18 per game). The junior guard had five as the Friars scored 24 points off 19 Marquette giveaways in last month's matchup.

Providence also tops the conference in 3-point percentage defense (30.8) but has been vulnerable inside, an advantage the bigger Golden Eagles exploited by shooting 62.5 percent inside the arc in the previous meeting. Villanova did as well on Saturday, outscoring the Friars 32-14 in the paint and finishing with a 46-29 rebounding edge.

The Wildcats capitalized on Ben Bentil's ankle injury that held the Big East's scoring leader to two rebounds, though the standout sophomore still managed 20 points in 34 minutes.

"He toughed it out,' Cooley said. 'He hadn't practiced since leaving the floor the other day, but a talent like that is tough to keep off the floor."

Bentil had 28 points and nine rebounds against Marquette last month, but Dunn committed a season-high seven turnovers and the Friars shot 37.7 percent. They've been held under 40 percent in each of their last three losses.

Ellenson compiled 13 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks in the last matchup and is averaging 21.3 points over his last three.

Preview: Bears (17-6) at Wildcats (14-9)

        Date: February 10, 2016 8:15 PM EDT

In an attempt to end its first losing streak, Baylor will have to visit a team that already gave it one of its toughest tests this season.

If that wasn't enough, Kansas State is also coming off a stunning upset on its own floor and will try to capture another Wednesday night.

Another poor shooting performance sent No. 21 Baylor to an 80-69 loss at then-No. 14 West Virginia on Saturday. The Bears (17-6, 6-4 Big 12) finished at 38.7 percent after connecting on 12 of 36 attempts in the second half and shot a season-low 35.2 in a 67-59 defeat to visiting Texas on Feb. 1.

"We've been missing a lot of layups in the past two games and against quality teams, you can't miss as many layups and shots as we've missed," coach Scott Drew said. "We just haven't executed at a high enough level. Defensively, we haven't forced the other teams to miss enough shots."

Baylor shot a more respectable 49.1 percent and held Kansas State to 40.6 on Jan. 20, but needed double overtime for a 79-72 victory at home. Taurean Prince scored 19 points and matched a season high with 13 rebounds in the Bears' fourth win in the past five matchups.

Baylor, though, has alternated wins and losses in its last six games at Kansas State. It fell 63-61 as the No. 22 team in the nation in its previous visit Jan. 17, 2015. The Wildcats (14-9, 3-7) pulled off an even bigger upset Saturday with an 80-69 win that knocked Oklahoma out of the No. 1 spot.

"It's tough to play on the road anywhere, but we have to go in there and take care of business," Baylor guard Ishmail Wainright said.

Kansas State, 12-2 at home, lost its first seven games against Top 25 opponents this season but prevailed Saturday behind Wesley Iwundu's 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Coach Bruce Weber changed his starting lineup with freshman guard Barry Brown replacing Justin Edwards and D.J. Johnson replacing Dean Wade.

Wade matched a season high with 17 points while also making 7 of 11 shots, and Kansas State outshot the Sooners 52.9 percent to 43.1. Johnson went 5 of 6 from the floor while scoring 12.

"It wasn't that we didn't believe. We just didn't get it done. ... You have to make it happen," Weber said. "We had chances against North Carolina, West Virginia, Baylor, Texas. We've had chances against a lot of people. We just didn't make it happen and now we did so I hope that will continue.

"We have a lot of opportunities to continue to get Top 25 wins, and that continues with Baylor on Wednesday."

Kansas State freshman guard Kamau Stokes, who scored a team-best 20 points last month at Baylor, is likely out for the season following right knee surgery. Iwundu had 10 points in that game - slightly below his team-high average of 12.8 - but matched a career best with 10 rebounds.

Johnathan Motley had 15 points on 7-of-7 shooting and nine boards off the bench for the Bears. Al Freeman scored all of his 11 points in the two overtimes, and Lester Medford matched a career high with 13 assists.

Prince scored 20 points in the most recent visit to Kansas State and is averaging 17.7 in his past three matchups.

Preview: Cyclones (17-6) at Red Raiders (13-9)

          Date: February 10, 2016 9:00 PM EDT

Adversity isn't anything new for an Iowa State team that's been adjusting to injuries and defections since the summer.

Short-handed on the road for a second consecutive game, the 14th-ranked Cyclones will rely on that resiliency once again in Wednesday night's matchup with fading Texas Tech.

Lacking both size and depth heading into coach Steve Prohm's first season, the Cyclones have been further thinned in both areas. Starting guard Naz Mitrou-Long was lost to a season-ending hip injury in mid-December and Prohm suspended center Jameel McKay prior to Saturday's game at Oklahoma State. Iowa State (17-6, 6-4 Big 12) has withstood those challenges, not to mention former coach Fred Hoiberg's departure to the NBA in June, to remain a contender in a league rated as the nation's toughest by the RPI.

The transition hasn't always been smooth, as evidenced by consecutive losses to ranked teams Texas A&M and West Virginia entering the Oklahoma State game, in which the Cyclones overcame an unusually poor shooting opening half to earn a much-needed 64-59 win.

Iowa State shot 57.1 percent after the break and ended the game on a 10-4 run after trailing 55-54 with 3:22 left.

'I think it was just adjusting,' guard Monte Morris said. 'We talked big about spacing at halftime and that was a big emphasis that we put in after halftime. We came out and were able to get the job done.'

Morris and Georges Niang, the two constants during the Cyclones' trying season, sparked the surge. Niang, who moved to center in McKay's absence, scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half and Morris had 13 of his 16 in the final period.

Prohm will deploy that same lineup against struggling Texas Tech (13-9, 3-7) after announcing that McKay, third in the Big 12 with 9.0 rebounds per game and Iowa State's best interior defender, won't play again as punishment for violating an unspecified team rule. Prohm said during his Monday press conference he's hopeful the senior will be reinstated for Saturday's home game against Texas.

"I have younger kids that I have to set an example for. I've got recruits. I want to do special things here," Prohm said. "I want things a certain way, and that's the way it needs to be in every area. Some things I let go that the end of the day, I can't let go.

"It's not just about this year. I want Georges Niang, Monte Morris, Jameel McKay and Abdel Nader to come back in three years and be damn proud of the Iowa State basketball program. That's why I have to make the decisions I make."

McKay's absence should be felt, as he recorded 19 points and 14 rebounds in a 76-69 home win over the Red Raiders on Jan. 6.

Whether Texas Tech can take advantage remains to be seen. The Red Raiders are without top post player Norense Odiase, sidelined with a broken foot, and have shot 36.3 percent over their last four games. Leading scorer Devaugntah Williams (11.6 ppg) is averaging just 6.0 points during a stretch of four losses in five games.

Texas Tech has lost eight of 10 following an 11-1 start and 13 straight against ranked teams since a 78-73 win over then-No. 9 Iowa State in Lubbock on Jan. 24, 2015. The Red Raiders were 11 of 24 on 3s in that game but 2 of 15 in last month's meeting.

Preview: Golden Hurricane (15-8) at Mustangs (20-2)

            Date: February 10, 2016 9:00 PM EDT

SMU's quest for an undefeated season ended a little more than two weeks ago, but coach Larry Brown finally believes his squad is simply playing for itself.

The No. 16 Mustangs can build on their most decisive American Athletic Conference victory by remaining undefeated at home Wednesday night against Tulsa.

After losing two of three and shooting 40.4 percent in the previous two, SMU (20-2, 9-2) shot 60.3 percent - second-highest this season - in Sunday's 92-58 road rout of lowly South Florida.

Though the Mustangs faced little resistance while going 14 of 24 from 3-point range and recording a season-high 27 assists, Brown might have been most pleased with his team's care-free approach.

'Maybe the pressure of everybody talking about how special we were and we had this chance of going undefeated ...' Brown said. 'I never thought about that, to be honest. But I think it might have affected our kids.'

An unbeaten run during a season in which NCAA sanctions prohibit the program from any postseason competition became a hot topic until the Mustangs lost 89-80 at Temple on Jan. 24. Following a 12-point home win over Memphis six days later, SMU fell 71-68 at Houston on Feb. 1.

After getting back on track again, the league-leading Mustangs try to win consecutive games for the first time since starting 18-0. Despite matching a season-low shooting effort against Memphis, SMU has still hit more than half of its attempts while averaging 79.1 points during a 15-game home winning streak that dates to its 62-54 loss to Cincinnati on Feb. 5, 2015.

That run included last season's 67-62 win over Tulsa (15-8, 7-4), which dropped its fourth straight in the series by allowing SMU to shoot 56.4 percent and go 10 of 15 from 3-point range in an 81-69 home loss Dec. 29.

"When you play a team that is as talented as they are and as skilled as they are, in terms of scoring the basketball, you have to make plays when you have the opportunity to make plays," Tulsa coach Frank Haith said after that meeting. "We weren't able to make those plays. Give them credit. They are an extremely talented team."

A 23-win team that went 14-4 in the league last season, the Golden Hurricane haven't been quite as sharp in 2015-16. Though it shot 51.9 percent in Sunday's 77-63 home victory over the Cougars, Tulsa's hit 38 percent of its shots and gone 11 of 52 from 3-point range while losing two straight on the road.

"The way this has played out you can't hang your head, and you got to move on to the next one," Haith said. "We have another great opportunity on Wednesday to play one ofthe best teams in the country."

Third in the AAC averaging 16.2 points, Tulsa guard James Woodard hit five 3-pointers and finished with 22 points against the Mustangs in December. He went 10 of 16 from beyond the arc while scoring a career-high 30 at SMU last season.

Nic Moore (15.8 ppg) scored 23 at Tulsa, and has averaged 20 in three career meetings.

Freshman teammate Shake Milton, who scored 22 on Sunday, had a season-high 24 against the Golden Hurricane.

Tulsa has lost 16 straight road games against Top 25 teams since winning at then-No. 11 Tennessee Dec. 23, 1999.

The Atlanta produced signed with Florida but when Billy Donovan left for the NBA, UF gave Dickerson his release and he decided to go to UW. He is averaging 8.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest.

-- Lorenzo Romar’s squad is 3-2 both SU and ATS in five road outings.

-- Washington owns a 6-6 record both SU and ATS in 12 games as an underdog.

-- Utah owns a 1-2-1 spread record in four games as a single-digit favorite.

-- Since winning five straight in Pac-12 action, Utah has dropped back-to-back contests both SU and ATS. The Utes lost 71-69 Thursday at Oregon St. before falling 76-66 Sunday at Oregon as 6.5-point road underdogs.

-- Utah’s Kyle Kuzma had 18 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots in Eugene. Jordan Loveridge finished with 16 points and 10 boards, while Poeltl had 13 points and eight rebounds. Foul trouble limited Poeltl to 29 minutes of playing time, and he had only five shots from the field and the charity stripe. He made four of his shots from the floor and all five of his free throws.

-- The ‘over’ is 13-9-1 overall for the Utes, 8-2 in their home games.

-- The ‘over’ is 14-7 overall for UW, 5-0 in its road assignments. The ‘over’ is on a 13-2 run in the Huskies’ last 15 games.

-- ESPN2 will have the telecast at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

              **B.E.’s Bonus Nuggets**

-- Monmouth cruised to an 87-61 win at Marist last night as a 9.5-point road favorite. The Hawks have won six in a row with five of those victories coming by double-digit margins. They are No. 31 in the RPI.

-- Purdue allowed a 16-point halftime lead to get away at home last night vs. Michigan State. The Spartans rallied to force overtime before losing an 82-82 decision. However, they covered the number as two-point road underdogs.

-- Dayton and Miami dodged legit upset bids at home last night. The Flyers clipped Duquesne 76-74 but failed to cover as double-digit ‘chalk.’ The Hurricanes held off Pitt, 65-63.

-- Iowa State center Jameel McKay will miss a second straight game Wednesday against Texas Tech due to a suspension. McKay averages 12.4 points and 9.0 rebounds. He also has 36 blocked shots.

-- UNLV freshman center Stephen Zimmerman will miss at least a week with an injury sustained Saturday. Zimmerman is averaging 10.6 points and 9.1 rebounds per game.

                Wednesday, Feb. 10

                Matchup Records Skinny Projection

                Providence
                Overall: 18-6 SU, 13-10 ATS
Big East: 6-5 SU, 6-5 ATS
                Totals: 13-10 O/U

                Marquette
                Overall: 15-9 SU, 9-14 ATS
Big East: 4-7 SU, 4-7 ATS
                Totals: 14-9 O/U

                (20) Providence at Marquette
The Friars look to snap an 0-9 mark against the Golden Eagles in Milwaukee to avoid their first three-game losing streak. Excellent PF Ben Bentil should play despite not practicing the last two days in order to give his injured ankle time to heal. Providence won the first meeting between these teams 65-64 on Jan. 5. Avoiding miscues should be the key to this near pick'em. Marquette ranks 316th nationally in turnover percentage, while Providence forces them at a clip that ranks 22nd. All-America candidate Kris Dunn squares off with impressive Marquette freshman Haanif Cheatham in a battle of talented big guards, while Bentil will see plenty of skilled big man Henry Ellenson, a potential lottery pick.

                Texas A&M

                SEC: 7-3 SU, 3-6-1 ATS

                Overall: 13-9 SU,
                SEC: 4-6 SU, 5-5 ATS
                Totals: 10-10 O/U

                (15) Texas A&M at Alabama
The Aggies have fallen out of first place in the SEC following losses in three of their last four. A&M is on its first losing streak of the season as it visits Tuscaloosa before visiting first-place LSU on Saturday afternoon. The Crimson Tide is 3-2 against ranked foes this season and hopes to have forward Shannon Hale (11.3 ppg) back after a two-game absence due to a foot injury. Alabama is 8-3 at home (5-3 ATS) and has beaten the Aggies in four of their last five trips into town. The Crimson Tide is 2-2 SU (3-1) ATS as a home underdog like they are tonight. A&M saw its 81-78 weekend home loss to South Carolina end a run of seven straight where the under prevailed. The over has hit in three consecutive 'Bama games.

                Texas A&M 74
                Alabama 69

                Baylor
                Overall: 17-6 SU, 5-11 ATS
                Big 12: 6-4 SU, 4-5-1 ATS
                Totals: 10-7 O/U

                Totals: 11-9 O/U

                (21) Baylor at Kansas State
The Wildcats come off this season's landmark win, an 80-69 victory over then-No. 1 Oklahoma on Saturday. They'll look to avoid an emotional hangover as a slight favorite against another nationally-ranked foe, a Bears squad they lost to 79-72 in double-OT in Waco, covering as an 8.5-point underdog on Jan. 20. K-State hasn't won consecutive games since Dec. 29, struggling in Big 12 play. K-State is 1-8 (5-3-1 ATS) against ranked opponents, but is 10-2 (7-3 ATS) straight up at home. Bears forwards Taurean Prince (14.9p/6.0r) and Rico Gathers (12.7p/10.3r) combined for 30 points and 21 boards in the win. K-State's leading scorer in that game, Kamau Stokes, poured in 20 off the bench but is unavailable tonight due to a knee injury.

                Baylor 74
                Kansas State 70

                Iowa State
                Overall: 17-6 SU, 11-8 ATS
                Big 12: 6-4 SU, 6-4 ATS
                Totals: 7-12 O/U

                Texas Tech
                Overall: 13-9 SU, 9-10 ATS
                Big 12: 3-7 SU, 3-7 ATS
                Totals: 9-10 O/U

                (14) Iowa State at Texas Tech
The Cyclones snapped a two-game losing streak at Oklahoma State over the weekend, allowing a season-low 59 points. F Jameel McKay, the Cyclones' top rebounder (9.0) and shot-blocker (1.7), remains suspended indefinitely. Texas Tech has gone 1-4 since PF Norense Odiase broke his foot. The Red Raiders have lost eight of 10 since opening Big 12 play with a win over Texas, a stretch that started with a 76-69 loss at Iowa State on Jan. 6 where they covered as 11-point dogs. That game was lower-scoring than expected, which has become a trend of late since the under is 6-0-1 in ISU's last seven games. The under has hit in Texas Tech's last three contests.

                Iowa State 80
                Texas Tech 74

                Tulsa
                Overall: 15-8 SU, 10-9 ATS
                American: 7-4 SU, 5-4 ATS
                Totals: 10-12 O/U

                SMU
                Overall: 20-2 SU, 8-10 ATS
                American: 9-2 SU, 5-6 ATS
                Totals: 10-8 O/U

                Tulsa at (16) SMU
Larry Brown's Mustangs are just 2-2 since opening the season 18-0, but remain atop the American Athletic Conference standings. They'll look for a season sweep of the Golden Hurricane, which they beat in Tulsa 81-69 on Dec. 29 to open league play. SMU freshman guard Shake Milton, a Tulsa native, scored 24 points on 8-for-9 shooting, hitting 7-for-8 3-pointers. The Golden Hurricane's top scorer, James Woodard (16.2 ppg), had 22 points against SMU last month and torched it for a career-high 30 in last year's loss in Dallas. Tulsa has won 7 of 9 and is 4-2 (SU and ATS) in true road games. SMU is 12-0 (3-5 ATS) at home and has a massive game scheduled in Dallas this weekend against visiting Gonzaga.

NCAA Basketball Betting 3-Point Play: Three Interesting Feb. 10 Opening Lines
                  by Alan Matthews

Could a team that wins a Power 5 conference's regular-season title still be a bubble team for an at-large NCAA Tournament bid? That question could be asked about LSU right now as the Tigers are unlikely leaders of the SEC but certainly no lock for the Big Dance yet. A win at South Carolina on Wednesday night certainly will help things for freshman star Ben Simmons' Tigers.

                  LSU at South Carolina (-4.5)

This SEC game tips off at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2. I've said it before and will say it again: the NCAA Tournament won't be as interesting if Simmons isn't in it. But LSU (15-8, 8-2) has more work to do despite leading the SEC by a game over South Carolina, Texas A&M and Kentucky. So we could have a four-way tie by Wednesday night. ESPN Bracketology currently has LSU as a No. 10 seed in the Big Dance. Simmons was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday for the third time. Simmons averaged 18.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and seven assists in wins over Auburn and Mississippi State last week. He shot 61.5 percent from the field. The star freshman in Saturday's win over the Bulldogs was Antonio Blakeney, who had 31 points off the bench. He became just the sixth LSU freshman ever to reach 30 points. Simmons has done it twice.

South Carolina (20-3, 7-3) was upset at unranked Georgia last Tuesday but bounced back with an 81-78 upset of then-No. 8 Texas A&M in College Station on Saturday. Sindarius Thornwell had a season-high 25 points with nine assists and six rebounds in the win. That gave USC its first 20-win season since 2008-09, the Gamecocks' first road win against a ranked opponent since 2010 and the first over a Top 10 team since 2006. The Gamecocks made a season-high 12 3-pointers in the game and shot 57 percent from long range. USC has lost three straight to LSU, including in Columbia in 2013 & '14.

Key trends: LSU is 2-7 against the spread in its past nine road games. USC is 13-3 ATS in its past 16 at home.

                  I'm leaning: South Carolina.

                  Washington at Utah (-8)

This Pac-12 game is at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2. The Huskies (15-8, 7-4) are another bubble team. They are currently projected as a No. 10 seed for the NCAA. UW has alternated wins and losses over its past six. It was beaten 77-72 at home by No. 23 Arizona on Saturday. Pac-12 leading scorer Andrew Andrews led Washington with 20 points. Dejounte Murray was held to 11 points on 4-for-14 shooting after scoring a career-high 34 earlier in the week against Arizona State. Freshman Noah Dickerson was limited to seven minutes due to an ankle injury, and he's questionable here. Dickerson averages 8.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

I still think Utah (17-7, 6-5) is arguably the third-best team in the conference behind Oregon and Arizona, but the Utes were swept over the weekend at the Oregon schools. They were beaten 76-66 at conference-leading Oregon on Sunday. Jakob Poeltl, the Pac-12's second-leading scorer at 17.4 points per game, had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Utes. Utah won at Washington on Jan. 24, 80-75 in overtime. Poeltl scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Utes completed a weekend road sweep of conference games (beating Washington State a couple of days before) for the first time since joining the Pac-12. Andrews led UW with 17 points. Dickerson had 14.

Key trends: UW is 4-0 ATS in its past four after a loss. The Utes are 7-2 ATS in the past nine meetings.

                  I'm leaning: Utah.

San Jose State at UNLV (-15.5)

No national TV for this Mountain West tip at 10 p.m. ET. San Jose State (8-15, 3-8) is the conference's worst team. But the Spartans have won two straight, upsetting both Air Force and Fresno State last week (been off since Wednesday). A two-game winning streak may not sound like much, but it's SJSU's first in conference play in five years. Air Force and Fresno State averaged just 53.5 points, which is 20.5 points below SJSU opponents' average on the season. The Falcons and Bulldogs shot just a combined 31.6 percent.

UNLV (13-11, 4-7) got some terrible news on Monday when star freshman center Stephen Zimmerman, one of the top recruits in the country, was ruled out indefinitely with a knee injury. He suffered a bad sprain in Saturday's 111-104 double-overtime loss to Fresno State, the Rebels' third straight defeat. Zimmerman is averaging 10.6 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game and is a lock lottery pick in the 2016 draft if he declares as expected. His injury likely will lead to minutes for walk-ons Austin Starr or Barry Cheaney because the team is pondering a medical redshirt for junior Tyrell Green. Less than two weeks ago, the Rebels also lost big man Ben Carter to a season-ending torn ACL. Carter averaged 8.6 points and was second on the team with six rebounds per game. This is the only regular-season meeting between SJSU and UNLV. The Rebels won both last year, including by 34 at home.

Key trends: San Jose State is 8-1 ATS in its past nine road games. It has covered eight of its past 10 overall. UNLV is 1-4 ATS its past five games.

                  I'm leaning: San Jose State.
