Woody Coulter
I posted this in the service thread. But wanted to also post it in the next busiest section as well.
I will be in and out over the next week on here and this will explain why.
As a lot of people know I worked in pro wrestling for over 20 years.
I just found out a few minutes ago that one of my best friends from day one in that business just passed away.
Woody was like a father figure for me and a much needed one when I first entered the locker room.
I found my father dead when I was 13 and was lucky enough to get into the business when I was only 14.
That group of guys became like a second family for me. They helped me through one of the toughest times in my life.
As I got older the role of father figure with Woody turned to more like an older brother.
He was one of the biggest voices of reason behind me making the right decision. All be it a tough one.
That decision was to leave that locker room and start my own promotion.
We did some pretty amazing things over the years.
There was one thing I will never forget and for multiple reasons. But one for sure.
I had decided to swing for the fences and move my promotion across town to a bigger venue.
The scary part was, would our fans make the drive and could we sell enough tickets to justify the move.
Nothing seemed to go right leading up to that show. Two weeks before it. Woody had a heart attack.
So not only was I worried about him. But had to make some changes to the card.
On the night of the show. His son in-law came into the locker room and said I got two surprises for you.
The first one. It's a sellout. We had to turn people away at the door.
The second. He stepped aside and there was Woody with his gear.
He said there wasn't anything stopping him from being part of that night.
It was that night that launched the promotion and my career. As it was only a few months later I started speaking with WCW.
I had planned to make the 4 hour drive down to Ohio to see him this week.
Unfortunately that trip will be for a funeral now.
Woody knew his time was up and his heart was failing. He turned down hospice and wanted to spend his last days at home.
He had been fighting the heart issues for years and his family is overwhelmed with medical bills.
Just like we did for Al. I might post something on here so we can help the family out.
I wanted to give people a heads up on why I will probably be in and out of here the next week.
Right now I'm going to take some time to compose myself and call his daughter and the rest of the family.
