  • Dallas Cowboys draft 2014

Well another big football day is less than a week away and is one of the only potentially positive moments in most Cowboys fans' season. JJ is a complete disgrace as a GM. He learned nothing from the great JJ - Jimmy Johnson. You build a team with great lines (on both sides of the ball) and solid QB play. If Jimmy was drafting this year, I have no doubt he'd spend at least 7 of their 11 draft picks on defensive and offensive linemen, especially pass rushers (DT - A. Donald or LB/DE A. Barr top the list at the #16 position overall). If those two are gone, which I expect they will be, then I think they need to look at some of those elite offensive linemen that might fall to them - OT T. Lewan (Mich) or OT Z. Martin (ND). If none of the other linemen drop, who are expected to go earlier, then I'd say trade down and get some extra 2nd/3rd round picks this year or next. If nobody wants to trade up, then go ahead and take one of those top two elite safeties - Ha Ha Dix or C. Pryor. Dallas hasn't had a great safety since D. Woodson (my favorite player ever) and they haven't had a #1 defense since Woodson was on the team. They've already got a decent young strong safety who's a good hitter in B. Church, but they need an intelligent guy who can make the coverage calls and also play great coverage against those speedy WR's who stretch the field. Dallas' defense was the worst ever in team history in 2012 and they actually got worse in 2013! Defense should be the focus of the draft, with pass rushers and an upper tier safety at the top of the list. However, you can never go wrong drafting young offensive linemen either, as the Cowboys throw the ball more than anyone else and Romo (coming off his 2nd back surgery in 2 years) has been running for his life for the last 5-6 years. The last two offensive linemen Dallas drafted in the first round (Tackle T. Smith and Center T. Frederick) have been stellar so far. The other 3 starters on Dallas' O-line are average to shitty. Offensive line is a major need too. You win championships with a great pass rush or a dominating offensive line IMO. Dallas is severely lacking in both areas. I would also love to see Dallas get a good QB in the 3rd or 4th round to be the QB of the future - I personally love A. Murray from Georgia.

But of course, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Jerruh draft some WR or CB with a big name in the first round... or even worse, he'll trade up and give multiple top round picks to get boom/bust QB J. Manziel (more likely to be a bust IMO) or some other "skill position" player, instead of just staying where you're at and fortifying your trenches with talent and depth. Fuck I hate Jerry Jones.

I think you pretty much nailed the needs of your team.
Not for nothing. But drafting a project QB makes a ton of sense.
As somebody that has multiple back hip and neck problems...The last thing I could ever do is take a hit.

I think you have great talent on offense and see your team mirrors my Lions.
We all know the problem. But the draft never gets used to fix them. I think beefing up your lines would make them worlds better.
The division your in. Those guys aren't standing around wasting picks or cap dollars. JJ better not either.

Good to hear from you Game. Yeah, the Lions are very similar to the Cowboys.

I see the Cowboys hired the Lions ex-offensive coordinator to be their offensive coordinator - 3rd new OC in three years for the cowboys. HOWEVER, I think Scott Linehan might like to throw the ball (and more importantly REFUSES to run the ball) just as much as Jason Garrett. Please tell me I'm wrong! Hope all is well your way brother.

Finally, a wise decision by Jerruh: to draft the best lineman available - Zac Martin OL Notre Dame - and not reaching for need or big name skill player. Dallas now has 3 SOLID, young offensive linemen in Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, and Z. Martin (all three #1 picks). Maybe Garrett will finally run the ball a little bit with 3 studs leading the way for D. Murray.

Now it's time to focus on the defensive line, pass rushers, and safeties with the next 10 picks Dallas has for the rest of the draft.

well as soon as I think Jerruh is finally "getting it", he pulls a stupid ass trade up... to their most hated rival no less - Redskins. He moved up about 12 spots and gave up their only 3rd round pick, in addition to trading 2nd rounders. A million holes to fill on defense and there were/are plenty of pass rushers/defensive linemen still available when it came to their original second round spot, but NOOOOOOOOOO... can't stand pat and select multiple guys in arguably the most talent-ful draft ever! So Jerry says we don't need our only 3rd round pick, we'll give it to our divisional rivals to pick a DE from a Mountain West school, who was a Juco transfer and was suspended no less than 3 times at Boise State. Jerry Jones - you f*cking suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I don't have better news. But he is pass happy.
The lack of running game for the Lions cost them quite a few games in the 4th quarter the last couple of years.
Hopefully he learned something from his time here.

This is a draft so deep you should use all picks. Unless there is a must have player that makes you better now.

                  Hey Mac!

They have a great schedule (Oklahoma) and they ended on a roll beating KState, Okie St., and Bama... so they've got momentum heading into 2014. The QB should be better (Trevor Knight) after completing his Soph season. The sky is the limit for WR Green-Beckham and this Oklahoma team IMO. I'll go over 13 TD's... and that's being very conservative if he plays all 11 games. He's a huge receiver with deceiving speed - what a stride on this dude! Measureables almost the same as Megatron - Green-Beckham is 6-6 and 225 lbs. Practically uncoverable in the red-zone.
